Yes,but enterpreuner has to be first ceo
by sanjay gaur on Apr 20, 2005 01:34 PM  Permalink

I have to contribute that i have not graduated from any B school but I've worked with b school passouts.

The concept of all the b school graduates are same but their is a large difference between CEO & Enterpreuners. They are largely concerened with turnovers, profits rather than nurturing the qualities leadership which in the longer run will convert into profit maximisation.

Can we not have a system where all top notch industrielists are also trained for changing environment .I'm correct in my thinking as space of understanding finishes ,that's why seperations happen.

Not exactly........
by Arun on Apr 20, 2005 01:23 PM  Permalink

I agree with you, that today Indian case study is not enough, but the case is totaly different today. We have 90% of US basedcase studies. I don't think thats rite. In my openion it needs atleast 40% of Indian case studies & mahabaratha.
The next thing is stress management and networking is not given due importance in the curiculam which finds a strong part of career development in organizations and in making things happen. It needs due attention with practical cases and exposure to the industry practise which will keep them prepared for the initial resistance of senior subordinates in the organizations.

I'm working as a Sr. consultant and persuing my part time MBA from IFMR Chennai, So I can see the real side of its application day in and day out.

Regards,
Arun

Which Agilent Technologies?
by Karthik on Apr 20, 2005 12:54 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

May I know which Agilent Technologies that Mr.Venkatesh Valluri belongs to? Is it the Palo Alto based 7 billion $ company?
It would be good if the rediff editor's could provide a link or something at the end to know more about the authors instead of just mentioning their designation and company name..
Thanks

Why don't you run a simple google search before asking such questions?
V. Valluri is indeed the MD of Agilent Tech, what else'd u expect from a '84 batch IIM grad? that he'd be the MD of a some 2-bit me too company?

Why not everyone can be CEO
by Ravi Prakash on Apr 20, 2005 12:49 PM  Permalink

People Management Skills are not taught in any of the B-Schools. These needs to be inculcated within one self & see how best talent is explored & extracted across the cross section of an organisation.

Excellent mentoring stuff
by Niranjan on Apr 20, 2005 12:46 PM  Permalink

This article makes excellent mentoring stuff for budding leads, managers as well as old timers to reset their vision of how to become and groom good middle management team..

Excellent Stuff Venkatesh.. The point that it is time for a overhaul of curiculum @ B-Schools should be received by the schools and it should be more practice oriented. As is in the west, intake of experienced people for these courses should increase here so as to churn out more balanced managers at the end of the course.

Ofcourse this also has got something to do with the socio-economic system prevailing in India where people are not independent at that stage where they complete their pre-univ and are eligible for management education. The avenues for employment have been less historically unless one aquires professional qualification.

The situation though has changed dramatically now with the proliferation of BPOs and Call Centers where people are finding jobs even with a normal graduate degree.

This should encourage revamping the system so that prior experience becomes a important criteria for selection into Management/B-Schools.

Cheers!!
Niranjan

Why not everyone can be a CEO
by Kate on Apr 20, 2005 11:05 AM  Permalink

Great article. However,I feel that leadership is a combination of making profits, growing business, inspiring people to give their best while also mentoring future leaders. One without the other would not work.

Its also critical that leaders are mentored based on leadership potential and not just to create a bank of faithfuls!
