The article has said the real thing which should not be overlooked. But Speaking of the Technology , it would have been more better to say in what areas a management student should excel. However the emerging Techno-Managers will be far ahead than the traditional ones because that's the need.
Points well taken as far as they go. A more basic explanation: All (MBAs or non-MBAs) can't be CEOs, simply due to pyramidical organisation structures. There is thus less room at the top, and some must go.
About MBAs vs. non-MBAs: a) Many of the examples are of entrepreneurs who have successfully made the transition to CEOs, and are thus non-comparable. b) As a % of corporate entrants, MBAs do better than non-MBAs - perhaps due to of a faster learning curve plus self-selecting admissions process. c) Irrespective of background, competencies needed for the purpose have to be built. d) MBA is just one way of getting a management education. e) Such education has to be on a continuing basis - this seems to be deficient in India. f) This is the way forward in increasing the proportion of effective CEOs, irrespective of original educational background.
In sum, we need more empirical research to help: - make definitive statements in the matter - design interventions to tackle underlying issues.
B schools does not prepare students for the top jobs it only gives the vision of how the situation is from the top!One has to demonstrate restraint and patience with enormousleadership skills to get to top which bschools blissfully avoid!!

People who have the advantage of studying in Ivy League institutes should share their knowledge with the other studying in not so good colleges. The basic principle of knowledge management. The B-School message is good for nothing. What i think if a person itself has a clear eye vision to acheive his goal then he can also be a Good CEO without MBA education.
This article says only people with MBAs make good CEOs, what nonsense. If you look at the CEOs ( I mean good ones ) in India today not one has an MBA ( and thank God for that ) The ones that have from Wharton and Stanford?? ( Ambani brothers) have no clue what they are doing. Their Daddy had no MBA, but he had common sense. For that matter take a look at some of the best companies in the USA, Microsoft, Apple, ExxonMobil, Walmart etc., have CEOs with NO MBAs. The most valuable company in the world today, ExxonMobil, always elects a PhD as their CEO. So the theory that to be a CEO you have to have MBA, is bunch of nonsense. Infact I will even go to the extent of saying to Kids thinking of going to Business school, please save your money. Join a school that will teach you some skill. Learn to create something with your hands and brains. I would even hire an electrician as opposed to a MBA??
Very rightly said that a true CEO is one who brings up future CEO material during ones own tenure...a major responsibility of CEOs is to enable growth of managerial acumen as well as capabilities of his subordinates. After all no one is permanent and the show has to go on... its only if one grooms successors that one will be truly fulfilling his/her duties as the top honcho...
True to say that today the quality of MBA students has gone down completely.Except a few top grades the place is fully of sub standard MBA programmes being churned out .There are no proper qualified faculties ,infrastrcuture nor quality programmes.Its more to do with business making than imparting qulaity education.The by product of this degraded system eventually is creating a floating mass of MBA grads who lack the basic skills in management practice let alone ability in leadership. Their expectations are very high and assume that an MBA in hand will get them stars.Over the years these people will clogg the industry. 1)The call of the hour is to regulate the B-Schools.Emphasize on soft skills and case studies that have practical career application and finally internship for one year min after cirriculum.
