Hey, You can add Linux to that list of things to be on your dream PC, especially if ou are looking at a cost effective way of getting the best of the world. You have everything there... music, games, movies, cool desktop interfaces and most importantly, open source software where you don't sit on the edge of your seat all the time expecting the police to crack on your home and arrest you for piracy. And for the student or the programmer, it is THE OPERATING SYSTEM, because it is open source!! Long live the penguin!
A Celeron 2GHz system is very much capable of running Windows XP and of playing most high-end games that were released at least a year back. Ideally the RAM should be at least half a Gb for that.

hey ! not alls true here. not all assemblers are selling the pcs with pirated o/s or software. they also give licensed versions of o/s and also bundles softwares which are free like many office clones (which are better than microsoft off.)
so although the pcs mite have bcome cheaper but still they mite be cheaper if unbranded due to overhead costs incurred by companies are higher than those incurred by small enterprises.
