Remember liberalisation was not a choice. It was only previous congress regimes has suppressed this imminent global trend of this age. Even China and Russia had to embrace it. It was a no-brainer decision. It was only because of strong influence of Nehruvian socialistic thinking that it got delayed. No doubt - if Rajiv had become PM again, he would have outwardly he would have shown to implement some aspects of liberalization but not completely - as his strong-headed advisros would not have allowed him to go for full-blooded initiative
I don't disagree that these decisions have contributed. But the article seems heavily one sided. Eaach of these decisions have their fallibility
1. Universal Franchise is great and an absolute must - but it has not contributed to the progressive empowerment of women. 33% reservation might, just might. Only complete education for all will bring some good measure of success in this case.
2. Bangladesh war - No doubt, one of the greatest victories of India. Though this war was forced on India by the circunstances created by Pak, Pak is not going to forget this wound easily. Kashmir problem is its direct fall-out. As pointed out, china-ISI sabotage in the N-E had temporarily been curtailed, but has been taken up with vigour by both those countries to teach India a lesson. 3. Liberalization has worked its magic only for a small percentage of population - I feel the gap between the haves and have nots is just increasing. Again, this was a decision that was inevitable, in fact China beat us there by 10 years and is reaping its benefit to the fullest. Problem with Indian liberalization is that India has not found a good way to ensure that all get the share of bounty. 4. India's uclear Muscle. I think this was a great decision. Indira Gandhi should have gone ahead with her plan in 70's before the NPT. Then we would not have this thorny problems such as current N-Deal 5. India needs to be very careful with US. They dump anyone for their countries benefit and rightly so.
Rajiv had a vision. Unfortunately he was guided and advised by wrong people. He didn't have the experience in politics. He was panic and clueless. People around deceived him. Sadly he had to pay for all these with his horrifying death. Oh God' he doesn't deserve this. I remember while he was the opposition leader, in one of his interview with a scribe he spoke like this,'dear people of India I understood my mistake from the experience. Please give me a chance. I will prove. This sentence was totally from his heart. But no chance. That's a tragic history. I feal from my heart India would have become the present stage it is long before had he been the Prime Minister. We lost a budding leader. Jai Hind.

No doubt he was clean when he came in but could not remain so. Not his fault - It is the Indian political system. Again his being clean, just like Sonia's is that they started at the top. They did not have to struggle from the bottom/grass-root to reach that level. Having such advantage, he squandered it. If he repented or not is just a moot hypothetical point now

yes he had good vision as he piloted civil plane.one such flight i was travelling by forynue or misforytune he banged onnb tarmac while landing.I am not sure that was him or his co pilot.
As an Indian I am happy that the country has done well in 60 years, diamond jubilee - got for it. But i will add two points from which we have to learn: 1. Making Nehru PM when Sardar Patel for the best candidate, this set a sad precedent in years to come. 2. Partition- at the time of partiotion India was still under British rule and it was there responsibility for the smooth process of mass migration. But the british soldiers had already left and the country was in a state which we see Iraq and Afganistan. This was reported in the on the BBC this year, ask the questions t othe queen not salute her. So learn from these 2 misttakes get red of the Nehru Gandhi clan and never trust the occupiers.

We need a statesman not an educated buffon (puppet). The Nehru/ Gandhi clan have divided the country, the last viceroy was asked be Nehru to hand over the power to him, blame him and the british for all the problems we have.
Economic liberalisation... If it didn't happen Neither me nor you would be reading this article. Rediff would have not been existing ;) Net would have been a distant dream to us.
Azaad hindustan ke azaad generation... Vande Mataram
If Rajiv Ghandhi is there today, he woud have been very proud. Wud have been delighted to see, india success story in business it and other arenas. India relly miss him He is one leader who cud unite india. Under the current scenario, the only pewrson who can unite india is Nareendra Modi

If Rajiv Gandhi is alive, the country would have gone to dogs. His grand father and mother spoiled India beyond repair. Due to his death (thanks to LTTE), we got P V Narasimha rao and with him great growth. What Rajiv Gandhi did with his massive majority, except passing the Muslim women bill? This Karam Chand Gandhi (you call him Mahatma), Nehru were a curse to this nation. Unfortunately, we did not have another Godse to save the country from Nehru.

Monish Roy regrets there r no more Godses, Abhishek chouhan merrily endorses the dirty Views. Many such stupids openly support Modi. Likewise there are some stupids in muslims too who support such characters of their community.

Monish, I completely disagree with you on My dear Mahatma. I agree on all other points. I was going to elaborate - but I will stop short as I am afraid that there will be barrage of posts redriding Mahatma.

You are absolutely correct. Modi is the real leader who can unite India by removing the adversaries against him. Great keep it up...
1) Not retaking Kashmir from Pakistan despite having faught 4 wars with them. The terrorism that stemmed from it and the general bashing of India on the world stage later on degraded us as a power.
2)Mandal commission's report implementation.
3)Not going ahead in war with Pakistan in the year 2002

4) Nuclear tests...(paved way for some independence in various fields)
5) Sonia Gandhi as congress leader. not any Indian leader in 100 crores..!.what r her contribution, credentials & skills...forget Itlay (Hey r we in chronic habit of enslaving ourselves..?.)
