1) Mahatma Gandhi's suggestion to include Dr Ambedkar in the Constitution Committee & Jawaharlal's decision to give Dr Ambedkar full freedom in drafting the Constitution. India chose to become a secular democratic republic with universal adult franchise. It was the greatest landmark in Indian history.
2) Jawaharlal's decision to form India's Atomic Energy Commission way back in 1947!
3)Indira Gandhi's bold decision to free Bangladesh in spite of threats from USA.
4) VP Singh's decision to implement Mandal Commission report. That revolutionized the power sharing for good. By implementing Mandal Commission, VP Singh timely defused a mighty bomb & saved the nation!
5) Rajeev Gandhi's decision to usher an era of telecommunications & computers (the information technology). Indian passport gained respect only because of Rajeev's IT dreams!
One of the major decision India took in early stage of post independence was converting FPS (Foot, Pound, Second) system to MKS (Meter, Kilogram, Second), a Metric system before the industrial growth took place. Today, it is unthinkable to switch if it was not done before. USA can%u2019t do it today or even a decade before as it would cost the country several billion dollars because it has already grown so much industrialized with old FPS system. MKS system is more meaningful in today%u2019s globalization.
The progress achieved by India truely the credit goes to Late Prime minister P.V. Narasimha Rao and his then Finance minister Mr Man mohan sing the current PM.
It is easy to critisise the decissions. But India with a large population/ diverse culture / numerous fly by night like political parties , each one having individual aganda with ulterior motives, the performance of the country in the last 17 years has been remarcable and formidable.
India inviting foreign exchange of 500 USD in early sixties and seventees for selling Bajaj chetak scooters to todays secenerio of Corporates being told to keep all FX earnings over 20 million out side the country is truely signifying economic achievement.
Yes the economic stability and performance has to be matched by Political stability with maturity of mind by Politicians.
The one thing that still hurts me is the continueous emergence of political maharajas in regional kingdoms even though the govt abolished Privey purse to maharajas many years ago.
The countrys political system in the name of democracy has and continuing to encourage birth of a new political party at the drop of a hat. This needs to be stopped and a strong two party political system should emerge and coalition form of Govt should be abolished.
The performance of Man mohan sing and his group of ministers could be far more significnat if they do not have to move their heads to accept the whimsical demands of differant political part

i cannot agree more !! IT was Late Prime minister P.V. Narasimha Rao and his then Finance minister Mr Manmohan singh the current PM. Then the chips were down. India was broke. India rose from the ashes... The same time Russia tried it but failed and the people their are still suffering. Since now the times are good nobody will even look back and thank their stars and these two men.
To my mind, five decisions that changed India for the worst are:- 1. Taking up Kashmir issue with U.N.O. instead of finishing the battle by liberating the whole part. 2.Imposition of Section 370 3.Tashkand Agreement - giving back the Kashsmir territory liberated in 1965 war. 4.Reservations on the basis of Castes 5.Slowing down of the Family Planning Programme started during Emergency.

1 and 4 are the worst decisions taken by the govt. But about the rest i am not sure....
This Dipak Bose fellow wears his Commie beliefs as a badge of honor, and attacking Uncle Sam at every opportunity being de requeur. He says India didn't receive any technological help from USA, only from communist USSR. Well for his info, it was Uncle Sam who helped with setting up the IITs, it was Uncle Sam who helped set up India's first N-plant, it was Unle Sam who helped India set up her aerospace program with the first Ranger rocket. If Nehru wasn't such a stupid pompous priggish arrogant twit, India today, with Uncle Sam's help, would have been as developed as Japan or Korea. And when when the chips were down, it was Uncle Sam who came to the rescue, like they did in '62, telling Mao to push off or feel Uncle Sam's wrath. It was Uncle Sam, who has provided the lions share of economic aid since independence, not the Soviets. In fact the Soviet Union used India, what with her over-valued Rouble vs the cheap Rupee, they got huge amounts of Indian goods and consumer products in return for questionable military hardware. And India's first steel mill was not from the Commie Soviiets - it came from the capitalist west - Germany. This guy need some good history lessons.

bodh, why do u say with the help of US we can grow better.r u residing in us?? u have no mind to say we can grow by our own
Russian scientists are working in ISRO.will ur beloved US will send scientists to India??
US made japan to ashes, then helped? u want me to explain how US is crushing India?
it was the decision not of the people but one man, gandhi, to impose a commie nehru on india as its pm, in total contempt for peoples' choice. let the word go forth that people's voice and choice is a lot smarter than any one leader.

United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government has no interest to implement pending bills which they have mentioned in their own Common Minimum Programme (CMP). CMP is prepared in the pressure of the Left, who gives support from outside for UPA government.
33% women reservation bill is pending; Tribal Bill is pending; Employees bill for unauthorised sector. It allows minimum wages of Rs. 6400/-. But now govt. prepares another bill which has no clause about the minimum wages.
In the another side , govt. is committed to implement bills in favour of George Bush and America.
123 agreement; Opened retail sector for American giants like Wal-Mart, which will increase unemployment in local retailers section; Opened education sector for Foreign Universities; Cleared 10,000 crores arms deal with America and Israel.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was a good friend of Bush Administration at their reign. After the implementation of globalisation, experiment of 6 years, BJP has fallen into the deep well of frustration. Its 70 sitting MPs are now roaming here and there. Then next PM Manmohan Singh and Chidambaram started their reforms with 'Human Face' (truth is that there is no dog face even).
Congress' policy is also the same of its colleague BJP. Now Congress faces indifferences with its own ministers and leaders; its own alliance partners; and the Left.
Human face globalisation never reached to common people; 10% growth could not reach to our people. These words, g

ARE MERE BHAI... YE DEMOCRACY HAI!!! DEMOCRACY KA MATLAB JAANTA HAI? MAI BATATA HU... BAATE HAJAAR KAAM 1 NAHI... AUR KAAM KARTA KAUN HAI? KOI NAHI... SABKO HARAAM KI PADI HAI...
The topics you mentioned above are baseless. If congress is in power, BJP won't allow them to work. If BJP is in power, LEFT won't allow to work with them.. ISI LIYE KAHTA HU.. YE DEMOCRACY HAI... Yaha par kisi ke paas bhi DANDAA nahi hai kaam karwane wala..
Anyway, this will someday change our society and politics for sure. Do you know how?? Because lot of youngsters are now thinking more about the country's politics and taking their in all the areas. Politics is one of them.
Are you a youngster? If yes, join the politics. But, promise that you won't run after the power, make a promise that you won't disturb the ruling government if you are not in power; make a promise that you won't do such things which our politicians do today like playing with our electoral matters, migrating people on the fake visas, accepting briberies etc.; Make a promise that if you come in power you won't favour your family and friends; make a promise that you will face a fair trial if you get in to some judiciary case; make a promise that you will only earn the MP's or MLA's salary and won't try to earn more than that (I mean bribery)....
Dear friend, it is quite easy to critise the system but it is very tough to get in to the system and try to improve it.
Are you really willing to change the system? Think
The biggest decision which changed India was the selection of Chacha Nehru as the next PM by our beloved Bapuji. When the majority of the leaders assembled voted to have SArdar Vallabh bhai Patel to be the next PM, beloved Bapuji sort of vetoed and made Chacha ji as the first Prime Minister of independent India. The present day India owes a lot to the decision of beloved Bapuji

I obviously understand your statement with a Tongue-in-Cheek. Definitely India would have fared better under the leadership of Sardar Patel who was instrumental in bringing all the small-time kings together to form this "United Kingdoms of India" But for his charishma and good rapport with the pharangs what had Nehru got to give for this nation.. Or what has his offsprings got to offer now, for this nation.. The need of the hour is good and efficient brains and not maintaining good rapport and special friendship with pharangs and their wives..

absolutely right my brother.................... sardar Vallabh ji was a far more better choice than chachaji..........................but now one can't cry over spilt milk...........we still have very gud leaders atleast we all sshould give them a chance now!!!!!!!!!!!!
The fabric of the country being secular was the worst decision taken ever. Make it into a hindu country. Who's stopping us? What have the "others" contributed? They have only initiated riots and killed hindus.
Nepal is a Hindu State. You know what it is worth for & how developed it is.
Before the advent of Muslims, India was a cluster of Hindu states. HNo Hindu state was strong enough to take on the Muslim invaders who were so few in number.
What has the Hindus contributed to India? The rubbish caste system? The third grade merit? the stupid philosophy of Karma? Who has stopped Hindus from winning gold medals at Olympics? Who has stopped them from getting Nobel Prizes?
Lastly, Hindus have kill more Hindus than the Muslims.
If you want Hindu Rashtra, then migrate to Nepal. This country will remian secular.
