Should we really feel proud of our nations growth?
by Hareshwara Babu on Jan 09, 2008 11:17 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I do agree that india has attained remarkable growth after independence which is honestly not enough.I don't believe in comparing india with other tiny, rich asian and european nations of less population and more resources. If we have a closer look at what we call as our acheivements like green revolution, white revolution etc..,they were not initiated by our politicians, but they are simply the crative brain childrens of our indian intellectuals. Those intellectuals who know how to manage the political pressure of corrupted politicians without giving up their ideas are the ones who made our india really shining. As long as politicians stick to their power greedy, caste based politics, the constuctive ideas of hundreds of visionaries and intellectuals remain stagnant as their ideas need some formal approval, allocation of funds.etc..which again requires support from the politicians in power.I observed one significant difference between india and china despite of my unwillingness to bring china in the topic now.The difference is that It is our intellectuals who are not poloticians want india to shine but in china,It is their politicians who are also intellectuals want china to shine.

by on Oct 16, 2007 05:14 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

There were many foolish decisions also for which we suffer even now:
Referring Kashmir to UNO an ordering Indian army to stop fighting when it was winning.
Accepting Tibet as a part of China.
Bhai -Bhaism with China--Panchsheel
Reservations for votes.
Sacrificing NWFP and Chittagong area in a hurry.
Keeping Mountbatten as GG if Independent India.
Soviet style planning
VP

3Panderng to regional,caste-based,communal electionsystem

nehru the idiot
by Rohan Singh on Oct 10, 2007 10:48 PM  Permalink

nehru was a big idiot. his policies of socailism were failures. his foreing policy towards china & pakistan have left us with problems in north east & Kashmir. How many agree to this. Ambedkar was one more stupid whor borught about the concept of reservation. George Fernandez was a rascal who threw out multi nationals. After 1991 India went about licking heels of MNCs to come back. See where China, Singapore are after 30 years.

One Stupid Decision that Ruined India
by Perv Sharma on Sep 15, 2007 07:06 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

To capture more than 90,000 Muslim Soldiers alive in 1971 and then feed them ?
Stopping the Progress of Indian Army when it was about to capture Lahore ?

And in 1947 the biggest blunder by Nehru to take the Kashmir matter to UN whereas Sardar Patel had already decided to solve it by himself?

consequence determine decision
by Patriot on Sep 06, 2007 04:44 PM  Permalink

a nation is shaped not by just one or two decisions, it is shaped by the decisions and choices made by every individual every moment.. It is just that we identify some consequences and try to corelate the same to the immediately precding cause.
Anyway I am listing below the top 5 events which played a significant role in the shaping of this country's destiny ( post 1947 )
Gandhi's subtle Autocracy: He imposing his personal choice ( Nehru ) as the leader of congress and prime minister of this country ( against the more popular choice sardar vallabhai patel; similarly forcing India to be a homeland for muslims as well ( despite creation of a Muslim Pakistan ). Imagine we would have had no inter-religious conflict / riots at all.
Ambedkar's revenge.: By giving a stamp of authority on caste based reservation , in one shot , India got divided along caste lines and some other real , critical issues like population control, accountability, responsibility, meritocracy, economic considerations got trivialised/relegated to the background;
Top down approach coupled with excessive centralization destroying panchayati raj and federal nature of our nation.
Linguistic reorganization of states which further divided this country and weakened it.. we are now first kannadigas, tamilians, marathis, bengalis, keralites, punjabis etc and then Indians
No Review / Watchdog monitoring the efficiency of the judicial system resulting in stock piling of cases and unacceptable delays.

Five Decisions that changed India
by Satinder Mullick on Sep 03, 2007 09:26 PM  Permalink

Well written article.Liberalization of India--after almost bankruptcy in 1991 was forced--thankfully.
India has great Enterprneurs and skills/talents which was controlled by Govt.control of industry.Look At Mittals and Khosla of Europe/USA--
Brain-drain was forced by lack of opportunities--it is now reversing.
Poverty and corruption is so ingrained during the 1947-97 that reducing it is going to be difficult. Why?
Birth Control --for Poverty.
Politicians--for Corruption.
