MUMBA - AAI.
by suchet bal on Mar 25, 2008 10:56 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Mumbai was once a group of 7 islands with fishermen villages. On one of the islands there was a temple of local Godess Mumba devi fondly called Mumba Aai (mother). Since the islands were not on the way to anywhere any outsider from mainland Maharashtra or else where went to those islands mostly to visit the Mumba devi temple or any business man there for work also made it a point to visit the temple. On returning home he told people that he had been to Mumba-Aai. So the place came to be known as Mumbai.

suchet - you are sadly mistake - check the stats. bombay is the original name. it is a portugese word. bom is good and bay is bay [ water ]. bom bay = bombay. true initially bombay was a group of seven island. about nine to ten years the beautiful name was renamed as mumbai. likewise - victoria terminus was renamed as chatrapati shivaji terminus - and you will surprised there are still lots of people in bus as well as trains stations ask for a ticket to V. T..

dirtiest city
by Rakesh on Mar 25, 2008 10:21 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

every year 4000 people die in local trains. city full of crimes, robbery, murer, theft, neighour are very selfish? nobody cares for other, fighting for water at tap, abusing language in travel in local train. people who are trumpeting about goodness about mumbai must have not seen other places in the world. my native place kolhapur is better than mumbai. huge water, electricity, no pollution, no madly crowd, so 8 of my friends who had good jobs in Mumbai within 2 years got shifted to Kolhapur in railway, LIC, Court, Police and Telegraph depts. Mumbai is a dirty city. People live dogs life here? Even i will shift to native place after few years? still people like this city i dont know for what reason? People waste 4-6 hrs in travelling. Hindus belive (I dont believe) that human life is very precious and we get it after 84 million brirth. they why one must waster in hell called mumbai. These hindutwavadis must ponder over this quality of degraded life if it really precious?

Well said. I have travelled al ot and it is one of the worst places to live in.

It is a living hell. All the talk about its spirit etc. is bull shit. Human beings are compalled to live like animals and they do not have any choice.

Half your life will be spent in travelling in overcrowded local trains. Then there is pollution, water shortage.

Only the big industrialists and businessmen enjoy the life in Mumbai and create the Hype. It is a hell for middle and lower classes.

Dude.. It is not that Rakesh has'nt visited other cities, but I feel that you need to visit other cities as well.. Anybody in India knows about Mumbai by its headlines.. I am not a person to blame a city over the other, but dont compare cities.. They are the home lands of lacks of peoples. Every one knows about their homeland better. I say that even Rakesh is wrong blaming Mumbain, but you too are too much patriotic to compare Mumbai to other cities. We, the people of other cities like our own cities as much as you love Mumbai.. Please never ever try to compare cities..

11. WORST HORIZONTAL SLUMS TURNING INTO WORST VERTICAL SLUMS
by hansen on Mar 25, 2008 10:17 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

those poor who never lived in a flat and aspire for the elusive thing repent. rules are made to favour the builders who usurp 90 percent of the land almost free buy dumping those in 10 percent space and make a killing. it is sad that slum dwellers are never a force in the scheme of things like magarpatta story in pune. it has become a mockery in the name of rehabilitation.
