Misleading
by Sam Mathew on Mar 07, 2008 08:52 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I am not sure it is hate but certainly there is a clear feeling that Indians are taking up jobs and awards more than others and that is depressing to others. Somehow you get the feeling that Indians are not hlghly respected contrary to standard beliefs.

This death of Srinivas has been instantly reported as suicide much to the chagrin of all those who knew him. I worked with him for more than a year. He was the most steady minded person I have come across. He was clear and sure in his thinking. He planned out his life so well that everything went picture perfect for him. There is no reason why he should ever even think of suicide. He had a loving family too. Moreover, he was a specialist in anatomy and one the best dissectors I have come across. He knew exactly the surface marking of any artery in the body. There is no need for him to make multiple cuts before he gets to the right artery. Moreover no doctor would ever chose this route for suicide. It is the most painful death to bleed oneself to death. In addition Srinivas was a very successful doctor and had great plans for his future He couldn't have ended his life on his own. The whole report looks shady and aims to hide many secrets. There is no report on the weapon, no report on loss of property, no report on other fingerprints. The report so far is just a one-liner based on some writings on a mirror. Whether it was forced on him is never thought of.

I think this is a death that is worth investigating with pressure

And yes one important point just becoz a girl talked to you or smiled at you or is polite or scantily dressed, it does not mean you get a license to jump into bed with her. Please learn to repect comfort level and private space around other ppl when you oogle or pass remarks

Dear sajansajan,
ur analysis is appreciable but these brutal killings do not auger well. Somehow it looks like Americans are finding it hard to digest that Indians are doing so well in their home country. It is inferiority complex in them which is resulting into such kind of incidents.I bet u will find rise in these kind of incidents now...one more thing, u don't kill people for thier children being unruly & misbehaved or they are sex starved.

4 dead 2 million to go
by Giridhar T on Mar 06, 2008 06:58 PM  Permalink

there are still lots of indian students left. So rediff can sensationalize all of them. Its just statistically probability of crime hapening, there is no relation being whether its indian or a pakistani.

Misleading premise
by Truthwhine on Mar 06, 2008 05:42 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The premise of article is misleading and as all rediff articles making something out of nothing. All incidents were tragic, however, the first 2 were proven to be crime of opportunity. In Abhijit Mahato's case the culprits committed similar robberies all that week (including shooting more than 3 persons) and were caught that week. Do something more constructive with your time than talking about non-issues.

Murder
by Anup on Mar 06, 2008 04:18 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In all cases, robbery seem to be the motive behind the crime and not racial as some of you have mentioned below. I guess living on your own in a foreign country has its fair share of risks and makes you an easy target for such crimes. All you could do is to maintain a good social circle and use a house share, also avoid hanging around in isolated areas, especially after dark.

After four consecutive incidents, I don't think so. One or two incident could be said (for arguments sake) accident or rubbery. After 4 back to back incidents, anyone would say there is a problem. Why picking at Indian student for rubbery - The world knows that they are not from affluent compare to our AMERICAN BIG DADDY'S sons & daughters. Here a pattern is growing to aim at Indian Students.
Barak Obama is even thinking of "outsourcing jobs". What kind of signal he is giving to people out there?
My only request to the Presidential candidates that they better pay attention to these happenings.
AND The Indian Government (is there any?) should reconsider signing the N-Deal with the US.

indian students in US
by Rhazes Ashrawi on Mar 06, 2008 04:17 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Indians generally disliked abroad. I think it is just that they are too loud very stuck on their traditions and also represent the third world. They come from the third world but behave as if they are from the first. Also they are looked upon as being false in their attitudes. But the most important thing is they are looked upon as 'grabbers'.Where you see one indian living well you would find a hundred following him and doing the same. This has created a mob like immigration by the indians all over the world. Also their english accents are disliked by many westerners who are racist anyway.
Another unfortunate fact is that the black population in the US are aware of the caste system in India. The brahmanic hegemony since centuries pushing aside a good 35% of the country's so called untouchable population into obscurity. People have been writing books about this 'apartheid' system of india. Also the gujarat genocide is getting very popular in the US universities and eveery one is questioning about the 'democracy'in india where the perpetrators of genocide are not only not arrested but re-elected as state ministers! They are also beginning to learn that hitlerism and nazism are being admired by far right hindu leaders who preach hate and violence against minorities. All these things are being slowly scrutinised by the western people who take their own time in research but arrive at a firm conclusion. They also begin to wonder why hindus worship so many gods. Why arent they monotheist

I guess its got to do with the cultural and historic differences. Lets face it,the West is a very materialistic(consumer driven) and agressive place to be and life is often lived in the fast lane keeping up with the trends and 'must haves'of the new age, much in contrast with the lives of a vast majority of Indians who migrate to the west seeking jobs and to settle down to a happy life.

I dont agree with you... In US where most of the people of migrant, there is no reason to hate Indians as they are migrant and cant speak in US accent.

I think the reason can be anything from being more aggressive, love afair or jeolocy...etc...
