How are women and men equal in our society?
by sreelekha rajagopal nair on Mar 05, 2008 02:10 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

what a shame! a leading discussion board like rediff does not understand how to start a discussion. There are other ways than putting asensational, controversial headline. If 'today's women are independent, career oriented, strongwilled and capable', there are numerous women who are denied the opportunities even to struggle to be 'capable'by their families, by the wider society and so on. There are so many who are not allowed even to be born, so many who are burnt, so many who are asked to stop education, so many not allowed free outside their homes... Think of it. You have a responsibility apart from crying fool when an injustice is done on the cricket field...there are so many issues based on colour, caste, creed etc...

Sreelekha, stop complaining. enough of that. Men too have porblems and very serious problems. But are we complaining? 50000 false cases of dowry every year, no social support, no concessions, tremendous responsibility to provide for the family in times of inflation, harassment by women is driving 50000 married men to suicide every year. So, don't post one sided stories. Post both sides.

You are not complaining. What are you doing in your above post? Singing or dancing? Few yrs of 498 A is making you so frustrated but you do not bother of 1000 yrs of cruel Patriarchy that we have been living with.

Can you please mention these statistics?

For example here are some statistics from National Crime Record Bureau to think about.

Men suicide due to family problems: 68,000 per year. What are these family problems?- Financial and legal terrorism.
Women suicide per year- 26,000.

Number of men burnt in 2006: 3423
Number of women burnt in 2006: 1800 (All of these are AUTOMATICALLY) called as dowry death (304B).

women's day

Women's day must be celebrated as ,it reminds all the women who are in position and independent in all aspects of life, about the struggle of our ancestor women to whom we owe whatever we boast of today. It also motivates us- all the women who are in a position , to work for all the other women who form a major chunk and still are deprived of their basic rights and their self-esteem. In fact most of the Idian women are still illiterate and feel they are born only to take care of the males- be it their father, brother, husband or son. They only know their duties and not their rights. So,I feel this day must be celebrated as a tribute to all those ladies who struggled to make it possible for us to be in a position where we are today and also to motivate us to work for the less privileged women of our society.

More than 60% of rural India is deprived of all the facilities we get in cities and urban part of India, what about them. Should we start with rural day and also promote that.

Rightly said, whenever someone is oppressed they should be given a fair play I feel. But whats happening in our world is that men are somehow immediately treated as wrongdoers even if they are innocent. This should stop.

The problem of men has never been exposed. Same time, only problems of women is exaggerated. So it gives an impression among the public that men are privileged and women are being harassed. Very untrue. Please look at both sides.

by Hum Raj kumar hain on Mar 04, 2008 10:04 PM  Permalink

Women always want everything for free...reservation in education, reservation in parliment, lesser taxes but still they say they are equal to men

If women feel they are equal to men they should not expect any special concessions

india - best place for women
by attacker on Mar 04, 2008 02:50 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

india is the only place on earth, whr so much privileges, rights, tax-concessions, and reservations r given to women with no mandatory responsibility...

-- women get concession in tax
-- women has no responsibility of earning and feeding her family
-- DV laws r for women only. if women harass men, thr is no supporting law. even though survey said, men r more harassed in marriages.
-- then their r 498A and adultery laws. however, these laws were made in view of abla nari.. but statistics shows 98% false alegations / cases and women r mis-using these laws to terrorise their husband and in-laws.
-- then there is reservation for women every where.. frm education, to bus/train seats, to employment...
-- if a man wants divorce, he has to fight for at least 3-4 years in court and also to pay hefty alimony whereas if women wants divorce she can get it in a day time.
-- after husband's death, his will is transfer to wife's account. on the other hand, if wife died before 7 yrs of marriage.. its consider dowry death without any investigation and husband got jailed.
-- in india, women r most respected and treated as godess... but these godess r losing their values nowadays bcoz of some wicked women and feminists.

if dowry is evil so alimony too.. but women who talk big against dowry shamelessly demand BIG amount as alimony at the time of divorce, even if she is high earning.

Why 'no' to celebration?

sports (Sania Mirza). We used to perform Sati in once upon a time. And today these woman are also leading in corporate also, (Ms Nooyi).

Today if we find a day to celebrate for them then whats wrong.... So there is no gender partiality, but still after a long day toil and hardwork, if we sit with our mother, sister, wife and sister-in-law to celebrate and cut a cake, they would feel good.

So to fetch a smile on their sweet face we must celebrate women's day.

They are the stronget sex
by vikram on Mar 04, 2008 01:34 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Who said women are the weaker sex and WHEN ??? Today they can have their cake and eat it too. They can claim that they need special attention , get sympathies and still scre*w men and get ahead of them. First they had only beauty, now they have brains too which is dangerous for men.??? Men are lagging far behind and women know how to have it their way. On TOP of that they want a Woemn day too, they'll have it. They win hands down.

no one is weak, neither man nor man. if you show one women as topper i can show several men as toppers. some men are logging behind women, so as women who are also logging behind some men? what's the difference. win or loose it is not the right words to describe, because they are not applicable on entire gender.
