women and men are equal, no one's less than the other........
by jasmeen kaur on Apr 06, 2008 12:43 PM  Permalink

i think men's day should be celebrated too, because women's day is celebrated to tell the world about their achievements and not to show that women are in some ways less than men, so men's day should be celebrated too, if we think that both men and women are equal and are not less than each other....

Men and women are equal
by mallaiah anchoori on Mar 25, 2008 03:37 AM  Permalink

Womens Day is celebrated not to belittle women nor to underate them but only to express mens' love and affection as in case of "Mothers Day" and drive home the women to their acheivements towards equality in all fields of human activity. It might not have been heard widely nor known to many that there is a day called "Mens Day" also being celebrated on first Saturday of November of ever year.Does it mean that men enjoy less equality and importance and hence a need for celebrating their day? Yes,there is a dire need to celebrate "womens Day" specifically since they enjoy a special status in society as 'weaker sex'-may be due to male chaunism partly. The age old Manu Smrithi's scription that a lady does not deserve independence as she is taken care by her father in childhood,by husband in youth and by son in oldage is still widely believed even amongst the educated circles although outwardly they profess equality for women. It is in this context and to dispel that Manu's theory does not hold good no more in the modern world where women enjoy equal rights, share equal duties, excel equally or even more in some cases and make women realise as to how much importance and recognition are accorded to them, womens day is celebrated.Such type of discussions are only hairsplitting and serve no useful purpose.Men and women are like two wheels of the life cart and the absence of either of them cripples the movement of the vehicle. Both are equally important, inevitable and inter dependent.

Hi civilised society's modern thinkers(including rediff),

Why you are removing messages which is against women which are being posted due to some women's participation in doing wrong things? Do you know even in God's creature mistakes will happen? Bad men are there in this world.Ok correct justification. If that is true then bad women also will be there. Then some men who got affected by them will surely critizise them. Why are you removing such messages? Do you think every women is perfect in this world so that no law is needed to correct them? Think in both the directions. One's freedom should not affect other one in any manner.Freedom doesn't mean that they can do whatever they want. If that is the case you are marching towards a barbaric society not a so called civilised society. Rediff is mobilising it by removing some messages.

Why we need a Women's Day!!!!!!
by ggggk g on Mar 09, 2008 08:17 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If to commemorate the liberty of nations we can celebrate Independance Days, I think it is only fair that we celebrate the progress womenkind have achieved in the last century and remember the hardships through which Women-the most tortured and suppressed of all beings born, have passed through centuries and centuries. Have a race been more cursed? Be it any culture, any civilization, any religion, any country & any age, Women have been kept in shadows, beaten into submission, violated and controlled & maligned beyond belief.. and all for what? for being the epitome of kindness, of love and caring, of Beauty and Grace, of making the purest of all sacrifices-giving birth! Instead of being worshipped and treated with respect and admiration for being next to God the Creator in the ability to give birth, Women have been treated as insignificant, worthless and inferior. The Perfect Creation has been vilified beyond limits.. Is it not time for us to step back and think if all our veneer of civilization is just a useless mask hiding extreme cruelty? The Modern Women represents Strength, Endurance & Dignity in face of centuries of cruelty. Lets bow to that and admire it.. not just 1 day.. everyday..

Hello ggg (or some other trash name),

women were not suppressed for centuries by anyone except nature and their biology which is in no way related to abusing men.

Do you know women have something called periods every month which was done by god. Even a few decades back it was very difficult to work because 5 days out of 30 days they would be bleeding and have a lot of incovenieince and cannot work. Because of this they had to be at home, not because of any person or persons.

It is due to men and their technology development now we have napkins and women are able to work. SO THANK MEN FOR LIBERTING WOMEN FROM THEIR OWN BIOLOGY.

It is wrong to blame innocent people for their biology. Please understand the real reasons before blaming any one falsely.

Thanks,
Rajesh

Women's Day
by ilovedd on Mar 09, 2008 07:56 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Women have been supressed all these years, and are still being supressed in many places. So wonen's day is defenitely necessary to celebrate women's freedom, independence, individuality. They have every right to live life on their terms. Woman is a Mother.....who is God in disguise. People should learn to respect her rather than talking about unnecessary things.

Refering my previous post. Who suppressed women? Definitely not men. It is their biology.
women were not suppressed all these years by anyone except nature and their biology which is in no way related to abusing men by filing false dowry cases and imprisonining more than 2 lakh innocent people every year. How is imprisoning innocent people helping?

And how should we respect the mother?
By putting her in jail on false dowry case?

This is the question our mothers and sisters are asking. Do you have an answer to our mothers?

''if women are men's equals why is women's day celebrated?
by on Mar 09, 2008 01:10 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

just think for a while-who are u? what is your purpose of existence? i am ...... .no this isn't the answer.what do u mean when u say "i","me","myself"?ask this bigger question to yourself before feeling proud about your gender.little one, know that the difference between the two sexes is just a pair of chromosomes.we are merely puppets driven by that supernatutural force.so there is absolutely no reason for men to feel superior or women to feel inferior.now, coming to the tiny question -why celebrate women's day then?women are soft, lovely and tender.this tenderness made them suffer a lot in the past.this problem has yet not been completely eradicateditis for this reason we celebrate women's day-to give them support,to appretiate their contribution "in giving birth to u-a man or a woman". a woman is a door to your coming to this universe-having a mouth to speak, ears to hear, hands to write ,legs to walk and also for my writing this article.let us respect both the sexes-men too have a very imp.role to play.both are dependent on each other.i beleive now that no man would have any doubt on the celebration of women's day.if u are still hungry of imp.being given to u fine choose any date u wish lets celebrate "men's day" too.now ,silene please!attention both the genders!solve this puzzle now-what were u before birth and what are u going to be after death?sh................ .complete silence! -adrija

You come into world from a mother and look at what is happening to these mothers. They are put in jail for wrong reasons. 92 year old women are bought on stretchers to courts due to false dowry cases (498a).

Look at this 92 year old great grand mother (Not just a mother) and how she is being harassed by false dowry case.

timesofindia.indiatimes.com/India/Police_drag_92-yr-old_to_court_rapped/articleshow/2679345.cms

She is one of the 12,000 senior women above 65 years old who get harassed every year in india on false dowry charges.

Just empty talking about mothers does not prove any point. Walk the talk and stop the abuse.

Thanks,
Rajesh

Inequality galore
by James Mascarenhas on Mar 08, 2008 09:14 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Rediffmail readers, pease do not think of women in the cities only. The majoprity of women are living and working and struggling in the villages of India. They are going through a tough time. They are exploited and oppressed still. We still need women;s day to remind and inspire the rural women and men about the rights and dignity of woman.

EQUALITY
by Suresh Bahadur on Mar 08, 2008 08:56 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Are we not discriminating and creating inequalities by having reservations and special days. Women have proven themselves in every field. They are better than men. Then why any special day/ treatment. The minute you equate and say you are better than some one, you automatically imply that the other person is/ was better.

Celebrations galore
by ramesh jambu on Mar 08, 2008 07:06 PM  Permalink

Its time to celebrate. Its just an occasion to reflect on what happens outside and celebrate sameness and differences. To me, my father and mother are equally important and there is no question of one sex being more important than the other. You and I would not have been even born without a male and a female. Imagine a world with only men or only women.... (I shudder at the thought). Please grow up people and respect everyone and treat everyone the way you'd like to be treated.
