Women's Day
by meera bhen on Mar 03, 2008 05:05 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

International Women's day is a day for bringing together and bonding of all those empowered women in the world who have taken upon themselves to act as a catalyst and be the voice of the marginalised and the voice less women who also exists along side.On an indiviual basis the problems of all such women is dealt with on day to day basis, by the socially conscious women but on International Women's Day declared by the UNO , all social activists /Members of the civil society and the Govt./political units, unite and in unison raise the voice of the voiceless, highlight and bring to fore the fundemental issues like poor education ,health ,child marriage, widow torture and others that afflict women majorly in rural areas and other marinalised and deprived sections of the women community living in urban slums besides ofcourse raising voice against the universal curses like dowry ,wife beating etc.

At a macro level issues like equality in jobs/job place and fair representation in elected bodies are some other issues that need to be and are highlighted and battled for in unison not merely in India but through out the world.

International women's day is not about self but about the fifty percent of the population that have been facing major inquality and indiscrimination in the scheme of things from time immemorial.

Dear Ms. Meeraji

Kindly note that, is anybody preventing women to contest an election? No

IF RESERVATION GIVEN FOR 33%, WHY WOMEN ONLY FIGHT EACH OTHER, WHEREAS MORE THAN 50% ARE DOMINATED BY MEN, IF ONE WOMEN CONTEST, WHY NOT OTEHRS GIVE WAY FOR ONE GIRL, MOREOVER, WOMEN ISSUE ALONE CANNOT GIVE WINNING.

NOTE THAT SONIA, JAYALALITHA, MAYAWATHI, MAMTA, UMA BHARATI ARE NOT COMING THORUGH RESERVATION, THEY STRUGGLED LOT, IF THESE WOMEN ARE REALLY THINK LET THESE WOMEN HEADED PARTIES GIVE TICKET TO WOMEN (ATLEAST 33%)

Congress party will never allow women to have equality. They keep talking about equality to use women as vote banks.
BJP govt has proposed 33% reservation to women two times in their tenure but congress said no. Now again congress govt is in power but they did not introduce this bill even once.

Women have undergone ultold suffereing during congress rule and their abusive laws.

A profound admission of the fact that a women is only 364(5)th of a man. A bone of contention OR one of the Bones of contentions!!!

God created both with clear and distinct vision, not contradictory but complentary and mutally dependent

Who puts them there?
by Dheeraj Akula on Mar 03, 2008 04:41 PM  Permalink

In a meeting, a woman argues that in many mental hospitals, the number of men is three times more than the number of women.

A man from the audience says, "Agreed! But, who puts them there?"

Women's day is important.

Writeen in the article is not the scenario of all our society, go to the villeges and under-previllaged areas, women are still work hard to earn their livings, and still they are being beaten by their men, to spread the message of equality, this day is important, though not enough, to explain the equality we need to do more.

hey dude...do they (the women YOU are referring to ie the village women) know that some bird like "WOMEN's DAY" exists on this earth. I do agree with your feelings that the day is dedicated to the caring mother....to the loving sister...to the caring wife...to various avatars of women.
But what is the main idea behind celebrating this day has now been fainted. Rather the day is "UTILISED" by the big business groups to make some more money...the "bonus" day. As the "festival" is celebrated by only the rich (coz the poor -the class Girish is talking about really arent aware of it).
And one more thing as rediff itself has said that women manage both the boardroom and the home with ease...THIS ITSELF IS A REASON to celelbrate the Women's Day. Isn't it? (just give a one-minute thought & you will get what I mean).
Only the way to celebrate can be different. The one (woman;(as it is women's day)) who is able and lucky enough to have a "rich" life can come forward to help for not-so-lucky counterparts of theirs. eg they can start with their "household baai", start educating them, only an hour a day will be enough!else they can pay for the elementry education of her daughter. There are millions of ways-only if one(woman) comes forward to celebrate the day in a DIFFERENT WAY THAN THE REST WOMEN OF THE WORLD...!!

LONG LIVE THE GREAT WOMAN-GOD'S MOST COMPLEX YET MOST NEEDED CREATION.

Agreed, you raised the question and replied by yourself.

What exactly I m trying to say is, we the people from urban sphares of life, don't find the time to think anything but money. If ones a year you are being reminded what harm you see in that.

men suffer silently...
by krishna tripathi on Mar 03, 2008 04:29 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The shield that is given to women is now being used as assiassin's weapon. The women organisations have, for decades, moulded the records in their favor showing that women are harassed. Agreed they have suffered but the figures are highly exagerated. And if women have established themselves today, do u think men should not be credited for this? Can daughters study and achieve their goals without constant support from their fathers? Men carry so much burden on their shoulders but never say a word of harassment. Today, there is a ministry for women, children and even animals..are we men less important than even animals?? Men's day should be celebrated in order to make them feel part of a larger group...organised like women..

I fully agree...and to add some perspective, "Women's Day' is much more "marketable" than "Men's Day", wouldn't you say?
