by Dilip BK on Jun 19, 2008 03:53 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

No can change Indian mentality unless you change yourself, Just knows, earn money and save it in Bank for future life, takes a bath weekly once, wears same dress,for a week, and Gossip is common with each nd every employees , whether he/she is in Gvt or MNC.for 10 Mins tea breaks they take almost more one hour specially Girls and womens, Timepassing talking nonsens, my son,ur daughter, her lover,his wife, Daal, rice roti chapati palak sabji,mutton curry all's are common to talk, and yes back biting of others is very very common,u can not digest without talking abt others. Just need to be frank urself, talk straight forward, dnt be scared of loosing ur job so...u need to have enouhg confident urself. talk openly with every one, always have smiling face on others, wish with smiling face, and mind ur own work,and have neat and clean always, speak the truth do not copy of others, use maximum ur own heart for everything...Dilip From Bangalore, bk_dilip@redifmail.com bye

how to deal with junk PL
by imagine on Jun 19, 2008 02:16 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

hi friends..

I have joined in a team where PL thinks himself as the backbone of the company(>90K employees).

He expects from team to do as he does the things and he is been impressed by one of the team member, whatever effort u put on project creidts leads to that guy through this junk PL doesnt know ABCD technically.

he is trying to make that guy as backup PL eventhough less experienced with no proper communication skill.

what should i do???

Firstly he must be a Project Manager and not Project Lead (Both have dirrerences).

Lastly u can update ur resume...

if ur being targeted by the rumor mongers, then the best response would be to adopt their tactics and start spreading false rumors about them !!! he he he

Victim of office gossip
by KK on Jun 19, 2008 12:55 PM  Permalink

Asha, I think ur making a very generic statement that too STRONGLY. UR NOT CORRECT. Every office is like a class room and there are always these gangs. Useless and hopeless, unproductive people. They target from an ant to a elephant,..almost everything. I have had my own experience about my previous separation from the organization which is buzzing around in that office still. Though it does noe affect me in my day to day life anyways, I feel little hurt by it when I think of people just believing such rumors. I think the best way to keep your cool and stay clam in these cases is to deal with it when some ask you directly about it. Refuse it refuse it to everyone strongly. When you say I do not care about it, most of the time it means it is true. Also rumors are something which people cant stop. You have to live with it. And it fades away in time. Let it go. But never sat "I do not care". Everyone care cos we work in a very professional environment.

Absolutely relevant. Without office grapevines / gossips the OB (Organizational behavior) doesnt get a flavour for most of the employees (mostly females)..so this culture is agreed by most school of thoughts and is very relevant how much Big / Small the organization is..Cheers :)))

Are you a victim of office gossip
by SRG on Jun 19, 2008 12:42 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

After being in active work force for the last 13 years,(some of it managerial position) I have come to the following conclusions. If you do not want to be a victim of office gossip do and donts are like this:

One must dress appropriately; Never wear revealing and unsuitable clothes;
Be kind to your subordinates: dont be hauty with them; Even if you like to eat alone at your desk; join others and share your meals;
As far as possible do not have affair with your immediate colleagues;
Be friendly but not overtly friendly with your collegues of opposite sex; You must never touch your collegues; Keep distance; I even prefer not to shake hands with any one; Namasthe would do fine;
Maintain your personal hygiene; Dont reek of sweat, bad breath etc;
Dont laugh loudly; dont speak loudly in the office;phone etc;
Avoid using bad words;
Dont air your personal problems in the office; Dont discuss all your activities with every one.

This is a short list; but I think one can get a picture

I think this is for a Govt. employee who just wants to do his work, and wait for pay commission to review his/her salary.
