I think we are overreacting here in any case. First, the problem of drunken driving is not a problem of the 'youth', affecting as it does almost all age groups who drive in our country. Secondly, it is not about the rich, as they may get the media coverage, but account for a pretty low proportion of fatal accidents. Across the world, including developed countries, it's a well documented issue with varying scales of fatalities. The problem we have in India is that the menace of drunken driving gets compounded by poor driving conditions, lack of quick medical response for the injured, and the usual lack of strong enough or enforceable judicial system.

This is not the correct solution!!! Now if some one rapes, that doesnot mean that you will request to chop every male's dick!!!!
Long term steps like total ban of alcohol throughput india is better. It will stop these kinda incidents. Also it will stop politicians from bribing voters with liqour during elections. It will also slow the degeneration of youth.

Alcohol and ciggs/tobbacco are one of the highest revenue generator in india and in all parts of world. There is not a single nation who has ban either of these

it is easy to write here, just quote me a single example where drinking and smoking is banned. Now don't talk about gujarat, maximum bevdes are dwell there
govt can save a lot of money if it bans alcohol, in terms of public health expenditure. Govt uses this same revnue which it gets from alcohol to corrupt voters during elections. And in general health of many indians who are addicted to alcohol and whose families are suffering due to this, will improve.
just because it hasnt been banned you are saying that it shouldnt be banned?? what kind of logic is that?? someone has to make a start. And i hope india makes it. And looks like you are more concerned about the revenue of the govt ( most of which goes to politicians pockets) than general welfare of people.

Banning alcohol doesnt make any sense. If someone wants to have alcohol he can anyways have it whether its banned or not. In most of the restro-bars alcohol is available even on dry days, isnt it ? By banning alcohol Govt will only lose the revenue and nothing else will change
I drive everyday on the NH commuting between Gurgaon and Noida. The highway is great and is supposed to be a facilitator for smooth and fast driving. However, that is impossible. A few examples for the reasons why:
1) Autos and buses drive in the middle lanes when they should be on the extreme left 2) Cars driving at 50 kmph are on the extreme right ensuring that faster vehicles have to overtake from the left 3) During hours when heavy vehicles are allowed, all lanes are occupied by trucks 4) Drivers, when they receive calls on their mobile phones remove their foot from the accelerator and slow down drastically as if their hand which holds the phone and the foot is surgically connected
In short, driving is a risk.
The only way to get these people to mend their ways is not by fining them piddling amounts or confiscating their licence. Drivers on trucks, autos etc will just go back to their hometowns and get a fresh licence issued. The only way is to fine them stiffly.
I know…..I was fined twice on the DND flyway (Rs. 900 each time) for speeding and now I get paralysis on 80 kmph on that road, as I do not want to be penalized a hefty sum again. Now of course now that the authorities in all their wisdom has reduced the fine to Rs. 100, all is well with all the road hogs of Delhi NCR.

Good Note-All drivers in India must be forced to under go computer test driving. The Licence issued only for such tests are to be recognized. All driving licence MUST carry 4penalty spots with Blood Group.W/o passing computer driving test no licence to be issued. All such drive tests are to entrusted to Qulaified private cos under Govt rules and regualtions as each test will be different under software with 1million choices.Out of ambit of RTO.but secutity checks of people must be doneRTO to only carry out national security threat perceptions and related activities--Again money will play but Simulated drive teat passing is only on teh candidates--Corruption will come down--if not eleiminated as RTOP and Indian Police will any bloody Bribe Sad case !! All aged and ill health drivers are to be weeded out and HV trucks cum bus should be under such qualified drivers including autos like middle east all learners cars must be under Stringent approvals and all learners have to under go drum test/ Weave tset for motorcycle and NOT driving in colony roads and getting passed!! The whole licence system must be changed to stop issue to any under age under qualified people Huge fines must be imposed-TrucksBuses-5000/ Luxury cars-8000/Autos 2000/- 2wheelers 2500/-BCD grade cars 6000/-per accident/penalty Drunk driving and killing-- licence with draw and imprisonment for 10years like USA Drunk driving caught withdraw licence with peanlty running into 33% of registered value of vehicle.
Mostly it is the "maldar bap ka beta"s indulging in this crazy pastime. Basically, lazy and spoilt guys, with easy money to throw around. Normally, they have a couple or more girls clinging to them, and what better way to impress them? The guys and girls are usually headstrong, high class loafers. Need to be "Macho", because they have seen the heroes in films and TV serials such Macho guys driving around crazy, with booze in one hand and a blonde on the other! In great, spanking new cars! Speed is the thrill. If it runs over and kills a few poor sleeping on the platforms, well, no sweat, they can get around, the dads and chachas and the moolas are there! Haven't the top heroes also done it?
Tell you what, if recklessness is obvious, put such offenders straight behind bars. Make it minimum 5 years inside. Impound vehicle. Cancel licence. Impose hefty fines: Rs. 20 lakhs for loss of a life, Rs. 15 lakhs for causing injury. And give Police the absolute authority -no interference from top figures!

It would be wrong to stereotype these offenders. I've seen plenty of youngsters from middle class families indulge in the same activities.
And whatever made you think its the 'impress girls' thing ?! Speed thrills (and kills of course). A lot of guys do it just for the fun - for the 'cool' factor - and it doesn't have anything to do with girls. Its just that these guys are not mature enough to know where to draw the line in terms of speed.

Well, I'm not generalizing - said it just to illustrate a point that this kind of crime goes with booze, cheap thrills, and sex, like we see in some serials/films -not that every time that has to be the case. We have even heard to under-aged boys driving out the dad's car and bashing them.
These guys are not middle class family peoples, They are born as rich/affluent and they dont know the value of money. If they earned the money, which they are spending.. they know the value. All page 3 peoples and it is there passion to be in news papers in some ways.

In developed coutried there is a hefty fine and and long jail term for the drivers even if they by chance touch pedestrians on road and in india people are killed and nothing happens to the driver I think there should be strong laws and law enforcement and hefty punishment to deter people from doing such acts.
Nothing wrong with the youth but everything wrong with the law and the law enforcers. Bring tough laws and enforce them to the core and everyone will behave on the roads.
