Funny ?
by ramesh ramachandran on Jan 09, 2008 12:37 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This one is a weak attempt at humour. So what do you expect that your "boss" to become non-veggy just because he needs to travel to Japan. Well even among meat eaters I find non-veggies flinching when they hear that people eat dogs in Korea or snakes in China...so how is it better to eat chicken masala and not snake masala both are non-veg aren't they ? Pl undestand that choice of food we eat is very personal and there is nothing patently right or wrong.

it has the same logic of why you don't eat the horns of a cow at the same time, drink their milk !!!

No your logic is wrong. Drinking the cow's milk does not kill the cow. By your logic, eating chicken doesn't actually kill the chicken.

Stop this madness
by Sridhar Krishnan on Jan 09, 2008 11:56 AM  Permalink

Instead of debating on Veg Vs Non-veg, shift your focus on the short time you have in this world..Just do what you want and be merry. One man's food is another's poison so if you think you are eating poison, quit eating that and stop judging

Be Veggie

The most intelligent person of all times Albert Einstein believed that "Vegetarian food leaves a deep impression on our nature. If the whole world adopts vegetarianism, it can change the destiny of humankind."
Chanakya:- said that %u201CThose who eat non-vegetarian food or drink alcohol are animals in human form and a burden on a suffering earth."
Mukesh Ambani (Chairman & Managing Director Reliance Industries Limited) :- "Being a vegetarian infuses in me an inclusive mind set, a compassionate disposition, and a pacific temperament."

Meaning of article

Can some enlightened Rediff visitor explain to us, the purpose, meaning , necessity or utility of this article, except that it is about the author's ""large heartedness"".

Surely, is this what is called "gap-fillers" in print media?

amit, it is also ur large heartedness to report your ire on this article and the author, and also the media. Instead of ignoring this article, you first read this and are commenting on it which you have nothing to do with this.

If anyone gets the meaning of the article 'before reading', then s/he is truly divine.:)

I think, you didn't get what I was saying, that is: Every news or article has some relevance. What is the essence of this article or what does it portray or try to portray?

Another point to be added
by Kumar kumar on Jan 09, 2008 10:20 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Has anyone observed the fact that MOST vegetarians are peace loving or rather non-violent people.
I heard that MEAT has got to do something with increasing the BP of the person & make them short tempered, comparatively, which shows violent tendencies in them!!!
The ruthlessness or the mercilessness seen while killing those animals are visible in their general behaviour as well.
So even this is a point to be noted...Isnt it?

Ummm...Hitler was reportedly vegetarian wasn't he?
Anyway the more important point is that non-vegetarians need to be more sentitive to the needs of the vegetarian in much the same way as it isthe smokers responsibilty to stub out in the presence of non smokers.

Great Piece

Loved your article! Never mind the China vs Japan debate... I am what is commonly referred to as a 'mocka-tarian'. Mocka mila to non-veg khaya, nahin to veg' if you get the drift.

I can't help thinking that if we stopped being so stuffy about our eating habits, we would open up a world of great cuisine out there. Just like Anthony Bourdain and his ilk. But then, stuffiness is a national character :)

Bourdain is the most self-obsessed condescending spouter of judegements on local cuisines that he has no taste for or intent to enjoy. One of the tribe of T&L presenters that the channel picks of the streets at random. And if you think we are stuffy about our eating habits,go to china!

Vegeterianism is Good.
by Guruprasad Nagarajan on Jan 09, 2008 10:06 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The articles talk about China... but the visit is to Japan. Author does not even know where he went. But the author is very desperate about talking bad about the Vegetarians & Vegetarianism. You quoted, yourself a premium, but you are not the one. When you cut the hen or goat for the meat, you'll end up eating all their SHIT!!! as it is present in their body. End of the day you are eating animal corpses and nothing else.

I agree with the writer, the category of 'pure non-vegtarians' shall be treated with same reverance like, you treat 'pure vegetarians' most of the time, 'pure non-vegetarians' are subjected to discriminatory treatment. It is unconstiutional.

Give veggies a break
by Srikanth on Jan 09, 2008 09:37 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Your point is well made. The question is really what is food and what isn't. To a vegetarian everything other than vegetarian food is not food. To a non-vegetarian everything other than (possibly) human meat is food. To the Aghoras, everything on this earth including human shit and flesh from rotting human corpses is food.

Now to understand the psyche of the vegetarian who baulks at sitting at the same table as a non-vegetarian eating meat, I suggest that the non-vegetarian sits at the same table as a cannibal eating human flesh or better still an Aghora who is eating human shit!

Why are you worried about what others eat, whether it is Non-VEg or Veg. If you look exclusively of Veg food, its ingredients are non-Veg if you look at the basics. For eg : for an vegetable, to grow, it needs its manure and nutrients which is derived from manure which is made of composte from decaying bodies from the earth, Similarly in the water there are lots of microorganisms and bacteria, why only food and water, even the air you breathe is Non-VEg.

I think you should be a non-existent species.

Never ending debate
by Indian on Jan 09, 2008 08:45 AM  Permalink

I think title needs to be changed. There is no mention of China at all in the whole article! Well written in a hurry I suppose but the arguement that vegetarians are physically weak is not agreeable. There are so many vege foods that are rich in nutrition and if consumed in right combination and quantity people can stay fit and healty. Non-vegetarianism is popular in western countries and middle-east because they do not grow vegetables round the year! There are so many vegetarians in the world who are doing just fine as their counter-parts, infact should I say better!

This debate is never ending......and thus everyone should respect each other's eating habits!
