The only temple left intact
by Seenu Subbu on Jun 07, 2008 01:03 AM  Permalink

The barbarian Islamic marauders camped in Hampi for about SIX MONTHS, to destroy it. Ever wonder why, the only temple left intact is the Virupaksha Vittala Temple?

BTW, Aurangazeb invited "architects" from Iran to plan the destruction of Mathura and Varanasi temples, to be able to re-use most of the artefacts for the ensuing mosques that were built on top of the ruins.

cause of hampi ruins
by Ahimsa on Feb 22, 2008 06:47 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Who caused the ruins to otherwise marvellous temples of Hampi?

similar to terrorists who are bombing temples and other hindu places. There were forefathers of these terrorists who were muslim rulers, bahamani and Mughals who destroyed these temples, like taliban who destroyed bamiyan in Afganisthan and Swat in Pakistan.

Hampi the place out of comparision
by rekha muttur on Feb 22, 2008 01:52 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I am staying in a place which is 30 km away from hampi the place called kampli.

We will have have offten trips to hampi even though we find this place always new. every time we see a new thing when we go there. It wold be better to see hampi thru walk instead of any bike or any vehicle or travels, so that we can see the beauty of every stone and the sculptures. We can get down the place called kamalapur which is around 10 km from hampi from there we can start our journey. We can See narasimha temple, sivan temple, rani mahal, the stage for drama and dances which was built in that period, The place on the bank of thungabhadra is joys and heven on earth.

The great Vijayanagar empire. French travellors have written about how gems and diamonds were sold on street pavements and how wonderful and great the king was. One of the greatest jewels in India's political and cultural history.
