Yes, and that is how blasts happens!
by Ordinary Indian on Dec 02, 2008 02:09 AM  Permalink

And yes, toughen up. Care for yourself and your family. This is in our DNA - of Indians. Let the nation and society go to drain.

And that is how blasts happen. Terrorists came, stayed, made fun, but no one bothers.

With all the precaution now that you are living and by selecting corrupt leaders, you may also die due to blasts.

I agree they are also people struggling to survive. But that doesn't mean they will resort to unethical ways to earn their living. What they do is a form of extortion. People are ready to pay what is just, but issues arise when they ask for something unjust.

scare mongering
by pinku pillai on Aug 07, 2008 07:45 PM  Permalink

I think the purpose of this article is scare mongering.
I moved out of my parents home soon after my university and was earning my own bread ever since. The fear of getting robbed by the taxi fellows or being cheated by the maid or being run over by the bus didnot prevent me from staying on my own for a good no of years first in bangalore, then in pune and mumbai and now overseas.
i think it is human instinct to protect oneself when threatened and one should, no doubts about it. However, if i am scared to cross a road, for the fear of being run down, i will forever stand on this side of the road.
I can understand having to put up with for-ever absent maid, but is it a BIG DEAL? It is one of the trival things that you have to cope up while living on your own..

I stay in gurgaon. Once while coming back from meerut on monday morning to gurgaon I saw one guy with a 2 wheeler in bloodbath on ring road (andrews ganj) flyover on the other side. I took U turn, ask the bystanders to put him in my car. delhi police came in the meantime. The police inspector sat with me in my car and I went to AIIMS trauma center. He asked me to fill up one easy form. took my sign on a paper which had list of all the items which police found of the victim on road. and asked me to go. as simple. No hassles. guys come forward. my personal exp says it all.. I wont mind helping another person again...NB: I was carrying a spare bedsheet with me which I spread on the backseat of my car before comforting the victim. I guess most ppl dont help because they are scared that their car will get dirty with blood.

This happened when our family (4 adults and 2 children) were going to Mumbai from Pune around midnight. One qualis full of members of a Muslim family had collided against trailer, though most of them had escaped one young boy about 15 years had severed his hand and the arm was hanging from the socket it was that bad. All of us immediately got down including child and one of us drove injured to nearest hospital. There were no polimen though we were ready to sign requisite forms; We still shudder remembering that days experience. But the main thing is your statement that people dont help because they are scared that their car will get dirty with blood. That day obviously the boy was bleading and our car became a mess. The point is though we helped we were scared for many days; the reason is fear of catching HIV; we changed the entire car seat not to take any chance though the boy was only about 15. Even you should I think remember; any one can have HIV/Aids

Nishant Jaiswal, though you may not get by sitting on the pool of blood which is HIV infected, blood can enter your body through wounds which you may have like a cut on your hand etc. You are under the misconception that HIV virus are dead the min they are exposed to air. Please google and see how HIV spreads. If you still want to remain in ignorance, it is your choice.

Very wrong message - especially 'Saju Paul's' experience.
by Ayan Roy on Aug 07, 2008 06:30 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

For those who don't know, the Supreme Court of India has brought out an order, that anybody involved in an accident has to be rushed to the nearest hospital immediately, and the police have NO RIGHT to interfere if someone helps an injiured person.
Anybody who wants to help, can (and should) do so and drop the person at the hospital; his/her duties finish once the injiured person is safely in the hospital. If police intervene, they are directly in violation of the Supreme Court.
Such messages make people more negative, selfish and cowardly.

Besides that, the article too makes living single look like a nightmare, where everybody is out to kill you or harm you in whatever way. The truth is that most people, in a village, in a city or anywhere in the world, are nice to you as long as:
1. You are nice to them.
2. You reward them materially or benefit them in some way.
Nobody wants to deliberately hurt others or meddle in others' businesses, unless it affects their self-interest.
A person should be alert, yes! But he/she should not mistrust/hate everybody.

MY TIPS:
Just enjoy your work, have some good hobbies, take care of your health, be nice to people BUT TALK LESS and LISTEN more; and be a bit generous to the poor if possible.
Never get into fights for ego's sake - just let go; only fight when your or someone else's life is in danger.
And do not SHOW OFF. Show yourself down if possible. Try to be quiet and inconspicuous and blend with the surroudings of your

I must say that your advices are good and practical. I just want to add that if one does not want to blend with surroundings (for what so ever reasons) the best way is to find some other surroundings and blend with it.

Hi Anand,

You may not agree to what Saju has to say, specially about carrying an "extra bedsheet" but you do not have to think ill of him and wish him to lie in his own pool of blood! Do not wish for others what you do not wish for yourself.

This the forum to say truth. Its not like you are trying to screw people. He has realized that he has done wrong is more then enough. You tell me how many things which you have done wrong & then told it to people like Saju has done. Pls. take things in possitive manner otherwise this will become Game show only.

I n my sis live in Delhi and face these type of situations often. We did tp our maid what exactly Preeti did to hers. And felt the same with auto rickshaw what Shanawaz felt when faced an honest rickshaw driver. This is very true, if u ve to survive in such metros, u've to be more stronger and tough.
