Volunteer with CRY
by Julian Martyn on May 06, 2008 05:19 PM  Permalink

Volunteer with the community

Adopt a Locality: If you have a leader in you and the urge to bring about change, initiate or join a group in your locality and advocate for the protection and fulfillment of child rights by ensuring that government services in the locality are in place and are adhering to quality norms and in the absence of the services create an environment to demand the same.

Be a Campaigner: If you want to participate in building a voice for child rights thats is loud enough to reach our policy makers prompting them to take action for child rights, join our band of vibrant volunteers on their fact finding initiatives on various child rights and human rights issues.

Volunteer with the NGO

Be an Intern: If you are a student (minimum graduate college level) and have an interest in deepening your theoretical knowledge and can contribute to developing a more profound understanding on child rights towards value adding to our issue based campaigns, apply for an internship with Volunteer Action at CRY in Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai and Delhi. This would be an opportunity for you to learn various advocacy, campaign, research and networking related skills. (Minimum time commitment - 6 weeks)

Contact us at any of the locations where we work at http://www.cry.org/getinvolved/volunteer.html

Regards,

Julian Martyn

Volunteer with CRY

At Child Rights and You, the Volunteer Action division enables public action for child rights. Our main programs are building locality based public action groups and initiating issue based campaigns.

About the NGO: Child Rights and You (CRY) is a non government organisation working since 1979. CRY exists today - to amplify the voice of children. CRY partners with other organisations and individuals to reach out to the most marginalised sections of society enabling and empowering them to fight for their rights.

Target audience: Underpriviledged children and communities in rural and urban India

Focus areas: Child rights and human rights

Approach: At CRY, we do not believe in charity. Nor do we run schools, orphanages or dispensaries. Instead we partner grassroots-level NGOs working with children, their parents and communities. 29 years of working with and for children have taught us that resources have little to do with it. In over 2500 villages and slums across 18 States, we have witnessed transformational change happening. All it takes is communities becoming aware of their rights and coming together to ensure them. Not just by enrolling children in schools but by addressing the root causes that keep them hungry, illiterate, exploited and abused. Causes like gender, caste, livelihoods and displacement.

Hi All,

I was a volunter of AID in USA and from my personal experience, I can say that not only AID does good work but the experience with them is also very rewarding.

Let me clear that since its a voluntary org, no payment is involved, u work cos u want to work and help.

Bit of history

AID was started in 1991 by Ravi Kuchimanchi on whose life movie Swades was based. AID started in US, mainly as a fund generating organization; the money collected was then used to help fund the NGOs back in India on project basis. AID now has more than 50 chapter worldwide, including 40 in US and about 10 in India.

As the organization is expanding, people have understood that they need to grow more and more in India because that is where the action is ultimately happening, thus the efforts are in progress to have more and more chapters in India.

more information can be obtained at AID website which you can acess through google (just typoe Association for india's development in google, the very first link is wht u r lukin for) I cant write the wesite add here as rediff doesnt allow this.

I am sure u will surely finding something of ur interest.

Good initiative by rediff hope it results in some good work as well.

take care

Shashank
