Karvand (marathi word) is a fruit available largely in the konkan area. u cud call them wild blackberrys if u want to be accurate in ur english. grapes are different. grapes = draaksh(in marathi)
I had been to Fort Raigad in 2005 and had a horrible experience, well this aerial photograph looks great but the truth is, you will be stunned to see the actual place as it%u2019s an empty land with unclean wild shrubs with just some broken pieces structures, it was a horrible experience I had. All that great expectation of a big fort structure ect got drained. It took us hours to get there to the so call fort on a hot sun. The arrangements made by the Tourism developments of India /archeology department are great because you will not find water to drink or any shop near by to buy. my advice is don%u2019t waste time and money to go see this once great Fort Raigad only saving is its on a high elevated place.

Raigad was not the ruins that it is today. It was a beautiful place with wooden interiors that could house hundereds of people. In short it was a 'Palace on Fort'. Unfortunately, the Britishers demolished it completely. The fact that it took them 11 months to burn the structure on the fort, goes to show how huge the construction was atop the fort. If only you knew this you would have certainly enjoyed your trip to Raigad. And if you knew Marathi, you could have understood the glory of Raigad as narrated by the tourist guides there. Historical places are not for those with zero knowledge of history. When visiting any historical place it's important to imagine yourself in that era to relate to the circumstances existing during that period. You can't be in the 21st century and appreciate the beauty of past. No wonder, you could only see the ruins and not the greatness of the fort.

Nice One Deepti.. I appreciate those Comments of yours. Dosapati Calvin... For your kind information when visiting a historical place u must have some prior information or the knowledge about that place, then you would come to know wht exactly the situation was rather than taking out some flaws out of the same. Please go through the history of Shivaji and then continue visting any of the forts in Maharashtra rather than wating your time writing some crap due to which u are inviting the inside of Marathi person to come up and say some thing to you... Regards, Prashant
please use proper language --do not insult our great men who created history--you must apologise for calling chatrapati shivaji maharaj as a warrior--replace the word warrior by suatable word like "great king"
may be you got education in missionary school established by britishers--still u must learn from around you ,read books by indian-bharatiya historians

Well narrated. I could reminisce my 5 year old trip clearly. If there is anything insulting, it is government apathy and MTDC attitude towards this great monument. The MTDC guide had to be literally pleaded and bribed to take us around atop the Fort after a crowd of 25 made noise frustratingly. There is a rope way, which is most of the time "under repair"!!!!

Some people like Sundar, find great joy in maligning the great historical personality like 'SHIVAJI MAHARAJ'.It has become a fashion to insult them online.I wish all people who beleive in the greatness of the Great Hindu King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, should report it as abuse to any website where this kind of information is seen listed and see to it that this kind of information get permanently removed. It becomes our duty. Secondly people like sundar know that sitting in a room and typing these kind of rubbish, wont harm them much. But Sundar, dare not talk this on streets of Maharashtra, or you will be punished for life.
