Belgaum is indeed a lovely little town and I have many fond memories of my three years stay there. Just around the town in Talakwadi, Piranwadi, Desur and Katgalli one comes across people fluent in Hindi, Kannada, Marathi and Konkani. In those years the climate too used to be pleasant almost througout the year.
I spent 4 yrs at GIT Belgaum. The place is awesome...I have not been there since '95. Just seeing an article on Belgaum make me feel so good...all the sweet memories seem to come alive.
indeed belgaum is a paradise on earth. not jut for the scenic setting of its location and the great climate throughout the year but also for its hosptable and well cultured people and its cosmopolitan nature.one can get all modern amenities but without the pollution of metros. cantonment area, (camp) for me is the best place in the city with its greenery, cleanliness, neat and wide roads, paved footpaths that are a delight to morning walkers, and excellent civic amenities. having spent four years in Belgaum, i long to go back there. the people are so friendly, educated and cultured. very rarely does one find the regular street brawls common in other cities. nature has bestowed her best to this place and surroundings. the water falls of gokak, amboli, godchinmalki, vajrapoha in its vicinity are all spectacular and unique in themselves. india's best teak wood also is found in abundance in the forests around belgaum. this is perhaps one of the few places which still has bungalows with sandal wood trees for a hedge.(like the ones in cantonment area) greens was my favourite eatery with its wonderful landscaped open to sky reastaurant with tables amidst bamboo and palm bushes. when you go into the bustling ganpat galli, kiroskar road and surrounding gallies, there is nothing in the world you cant get.
but i think the karnataka govt should ake better efforts to improve the place better. i fee it has got an ample scope of housing the IT and BPO sectors.
belgaum is beautiful and brings back memories of some of the most beautiful moments of my life. my sincerest thanks to the author, tasnim munim for making me nostalgic.
I completed all my educataion from belgaum schooling to graduation and I miss not being there. Belgaum is a nice wonderful place with beautiful mountains and lots of greenery specially in Rainy season its a paradise . It has that colonial and old world charm about it. And there are many getaways near no belgaum like gokak falls Asoga, Tilari Dam etc. Hope it remains that way and does not become a concrete jungle like bangalore. where u can only see traffic, people and those unsoulful structures with glass window panes.
Belgaum- the word brings me warm feelings, as soon asi hear. i love to settle in this city which is far far away from crowded streets and boiling polluted traffic and u can nowhere see harsh and rude ppl. its city of great hospitality and love filled place.I will never forget the days in this GOD'S PARADISE.. my wish- BeLgAuM.
Belgaum is been part of my life for almost 20 yrs. As my parents belong to belgaum we us e to spend our summer holidays in belguam in our school days. Now its been very long time i visited the city. My mother's family still stays in Tilakwadi. Belgaum has special place in my heart as it gave lots n lots of childhood memories. On every summer holiday we use to visit places like Dandeli, Gokak falls, Hubli etc etc..those places were awesome...wish i could go back in time n have that same fun which we use to have in summer holidays
Thank You Tasnim. You have made my day. I studied there for 4 years and I met my best friends out there. Its a place with which you fall in eternal love... We used to be there at Swamy's every evening and munching chinese bhel at Sun & Sand as starters was mind blowing.... Thanks again.
