Very cool article. Infact, I was an early adopter myself. But I had good service because I was in the US.
This happened with Sify shopping just two weeks back. Because I was too lazy, I got two pen drives from Sify Mall. Delivery promised in 3-5 days. Order status did not change for 5 days. So I called customer service asking for status, they had no clue. can you try the customer service chat was the reply? customer service chat was a joke, it ran on java applet which keeps refreshing. you say hi and the next refresh, it gets disconnected, are these sify idiots joking on me?
So I got furious and dropped a mail to Sify Customer Service. Pat came the response - we will respond to you in 24 hours. 24 hours passed and no reply. after 48 hours, i sent another mail. Came another response, that i will be replied to in 24 hours. this is when i got really furious. i questioned whether guys working for sify customer service had good parents, and after another 20 days of mail exchanges requesting my cooperation, my pen drive was shipped. shipment came in one day, so i was happy in the end. But the entire experience with sify shopping was so bad that i would never go again to that shit place. infact, i will never go online except for some adult stuff
Nice writing... Had me in part splits. On a serious note, yes, the trouble is there and there are good shops, too. But the product quality is less than desirable, more often than not. . I have been fooled a couple of times and am very cautious now about buying online. Electronics products are best bought in THE showroom of the company, not online - or you may just get the product, no warranty, no card, no nothing. Even the product may stop working the day after as happened to a 2-in-1 of mine - cost me just a 150/- :-) so was quite palateable. . My worst experience was of a raincoat bought from the site you are writing in (the 2-in-1 also was from the same site). I paid 600/- for a raincoat and when it arrived in a pathetic orange colour and flimsy fabric and design (different from what was advertised), I thought it would at least stop the water from drenching my body. I was wrong. . In this, the indiatimes site was much better - or maybe so because I bought only books there - so they reached me in time and in good condition. No complaints there. Lesson - books are something you can buy online (if you can't read them free). . I have also tried flowers and my experience was not bad. But cannot be too sure of others'.

my experience is: 'Indiatimes' are the biggest cheats. I experienced it in Oct 2007 while buying an oven. Never .........Never again
oh my god.. gone are the good old days of chequemail.com,indbazaar.com, then job sites giving you parker pen for referring to 10 people.. i collected 4-5 pens with different registrations till i ran out of fake email ids.. also the height was.. i called up the jobstreet office and told them i have not recieved it,though i had recieved it.. such fools they were..to promote their business..rediff.com also had weird promotions..1 watch free with their business email id subscription was a great offer... and at that time rediff.com office was in dire straits... did not have money to buy security software or do network audit.. i used to visit rediff office and had a tough time convincing their IT manager..wow good old days of turbulent economy
As an e-commerce website owner, who go great lengths to ensure great service (and are on the verge of introducing a loyalty programme), hoping that your next article would be more supportive of online retail.(Also, that we'd be around as a company to appreciate it) :) - Ashish

HI Ashish, I can understand that u r pizzed off at this article ... but hey the customer is KING and if the overall customer experience is bad, then , yes you will get to see many such articles. It is up to you to establish yourself as a reliable web site. This space is filled with too many kids wanting to make a quick buck & many more who have suffered.
