transaction fees
by malayali on Nov 23, 2007 07:39 AM  Permalink

I was charged transaction fee on one of the purchases from a textile shop. I asked the dealer whether he has a service tax registration and this particular head if he charges is taxable as per the service tax rules in India. He simply refunded the amount back to me without any objections. The users are being cheated by the banks as well as the dealers.

Paying transaction fees
by Guruprasad Nagarajan on Nov 23, 2007 06:46 AM  Permalink

I am always careful when using my Credit card. I first ask the merchant if he charges any transaction fees. I have even negotiated with the merchant for the waiver of such charges. There'll be always a transaction fee or service charge, when you use the credit card to buy Jewellery and in petrol pumps aswell.

HDFC and BPCL : misleading advertisment
by sanjay kumar on Nov 23, 2007 12:00 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

HDFC persuaded me through its campaign to use credit card for petrol at BPCL outlet with a promise to wave surcharge. Despite having cash with me, I used my credit card to buy petrol. Invaribly I paid Rs.12 more for a purchase of Rs 500. Further, in order to locate a BPCL outlet, I burnt my petrol.

u r misguiding others. I am using credit card since last 3 years and used to make payment on time. I never had a problem with card. First of all you should remember one thing that whenever u use the credit card you have to pay the money to the card providing company on time. U r using card and not making the pmt then they will charge late fee, interest etc. but u r the one giving a chance to them to do so.

most of the merchants charge this fee and the same is not refunded and the same does not reflect in the monthly statements sent by the
credit card companies. This is nothing but cheating. Government has to comeout with clear policy on this and the RBI should issue strict guidelines to them. I think we can even approach consumer courts on this issue.
