You cannot claim rent paid to spouse. The relationship between a husband and wife is not commercial in nature; a husband and wife are supposed to stay together. So payment of rent to a spouse will not be accepted by the income tax authorities

BOTH HUSBAND AND WIFE ARE AVAILING HRA, ONE IN CENTRAL SERVICE AND SPOUSE IN STATE SERVICE AND BOTH ARE POSTED IN THE SAME STATION.
IS THERE ANY NEW RULE SAYING ONLY ONE CAN AUTHORISE FOR HRA?

So far my knowledge is concerned, there's no new rule for HRA when both the serving employee are staying at the station but belongs to different governments. In Assam what is surprising that only one HRA is being paid to either of them irrespective of their governments. Central Govt. rules are clear that both will be provided HRA untill Govt. Accomodation is provided either of them. But state govt. of Assam started thinking otherwise and attached central employee in it. That is ridiculas. HRA is a compensation in lieu of accomodation not provided by Govt. The state govt is like to follow court case for that.

Why deduct 10% of your basic Pay from actual rent paid?
Moreover why take the least of them?
Thirdly and most important.. what is all this fu@k about only 4 cities? Everyone knows bangalore is as / or more costly as the others.
Anywayz let the Congress looters make more money.
