These kinds of messages make us rethink what we are losing due to our hectic workload. Better childhood will lead to the better citizenship. Topic not only gave the insight of the child health care but also the relation between the child and the parent.

Sleeping alone
by Y.Moses on Oct 05, 2006 08:28 PM  Permalink

Though an interesting article, a critical aspect is not spoken about.

In India in general, children upto almost 5yrs sleep with parents. In the Western world a baby after 3 months already sleeps alone.

I was born and brought in India & now settled abroad.

What's an optimal age for children to sleep seperately? How Imp. is it?

Shall appeciate to recieve views.

Suggestions and advise
by Radhika on Oct 05, 2006 04:13 PM  Permalink

Parents should take utmost care and handle the child
very neatly specially when they want to sleep. To have a good sleep the childs environment and surroundings should be in peace and a positve energy
should be flowing inside the house. The childs behaviour depends on we Parents and we should never blame our child for any behaviour they do during they are in sleep, we should treat our children in good way and take care of their sleep.

Children and bedtime battles
by Nina Kurup on Oct 05, 2006 03:01 PM  Permalink

I always sing the rhymes and small devotional songs with my nursery going daughter at bed time.. she loves to sing them and falls asleep within half an hour.. sometimes i tell her bedtime stories and she sleeps so soundly till the birds start chirping..

Chldish

I guess these tips are for the pseudo western mommies who have no time from society or crappy call centre jobs to pay for their western lifestyle.
most indians know these. no need to quote silly books from US MDs.

I totally disagree with you Krishnan. I have been following the above routine now for 7 months and my baby goes to sleep by around 8:00 pm or maximum 8:30 pm in the night. We get apprx 2 hrs for us to wind off days work, spend some time together, read etc after she goes to sleep. The greatest problem in India is lack of discipline to follow a routine everyday. Even I failed to maintain this routine when on vacation in India. But now that Im back to my usual life in UK, everything has fallen into its place. A routine is MUST for babies to go to sleep at proper time.

Regards
Kavitha

Well, you are not a mother and definately not a working mother. Though all mothers know this, a reminder and a tip helps. from any source.
