This is for all those high achievers, who have dreamt/ or all set to study in the UK. i must admit it is difficult to get everything sorted , as in the work permit , job etc, but i believe in one thing , Believe in God and give your best. I am sure, by gods grace, parents blessings and obviously your hardwork, it is possible to get your dreams fullfilled. It i not impossible but yes dont want to misguide you'll by saying it is cakewalk, But where there is will there is a way

Life in the UK

Hello Friends

I have studied at Bristol for a Masters programme in Communications and Signal Processing. I am still in the UK working for the University of Portsmouth.

In my opinion, the research work that you do to find out about the opportunities in the UK before you come here or for that matter before going to any destination is of prime importance. There is something klnown as the skills shortage list, take a look at that. Also for some undergrad courses & all masters there is the SEGS scheme that allows work after degree for one year. Scotland can be promissing as well due to the Fresh talent scheme as it aloows u 2 yrs stay after a masters course. Enough to earn back your investment and find a good job. Only limitation is that you gotta be in scotland, but that is not a big issue.
Take a loan of 4-5Lakh if you feel its necc. the Rs. deval will take care of the interest you pay on loan. If you are a couple (and no kids) then bring your spouse/partener along with you. One of you will be alllowed to work full time while the other can part time. If you have kids donot bring them over or your partner as that will be expensive, atleast in the 1st yr.Singles goto scotland for MS/MA

I have opted UK and in particular Manchester for the quality of research in Bio sector. After having a hard thought, I took a bold step to resign my wonderful job as engineer at Dr Reddy's for a PhD in the field of my choice and dreams. Imoportantly, world-class universities like Cambridge and Manchester have given me options of a direct PhD without having had to take up a Master's. Talent and ability to research is encouraged in this part of the world. While US of A could be a dream destination for many, UK remains the strongest choice for students who have a clear vision about their research. I am welcomed with open arms, supported well and given ample freedom for my age to work on a noel project which I have been itching to work on since my days in Dr Reddys.
I have not come across any racist mind-set in my 2 and half years stay here. This may be because India is popular in Manchester and it is a vibrant multi-cultural city. If you a pure veggie, you might end up having a problem or two. But, Indian food is as much available as in your home-town, only less affordable. So, learn to cook and when you need a change, you can go to a restaurant.
Research here is world-class.

International Student Life in U.K
by vijay sivaprem on Jul 28, 2006 02:01 PM  Permalink

Dear Friends

I graduated from London Metropolitan University with a Masters Degree in Polymer Science in Sept 2003.

Britain is a beautiful country with a great cosmopolitan population and a rich history; I can consider my self lucky to spend 4 years in London, where I learnt so many things in life both important and as well as silly.

Coming to the issue of education, job and living in U.K as an international student thing are bit different.

Graduating from a good university is expensive the fees ranges from £9000- £ 13000 (Depending on the university) on the top of the fees there is always accommodation and miscellaneous expenses thats going to cost another £2500 per year at leastBe aware and be prepared.

When a Non-EU student graduates and looks for a job there is always a catch 22 situation in the form of a work permit or suitable visa (Like HSMP). If you need job you a need a visa if you need a visa you need a job, the point is which comes first? and who is ready to offer both.

In general if money is not a problem then its worth giving a shot.
