People can invest about 7000 and walk away with absolutely good quality Altec Lansing 5.1 or Logitech 5.1 providing about 75W RMS Sound.
this investment is defnitely better than offer by philips , samsung, sony etc in the range of 35 -40 K, if you dont believe just drop in near your dealer and experience yourself.

I do agree.. Altec Lansing makes fantastic speakers. But, I am little unhappy with their Bass effects. Some how I feel, Philips's LX-700 (now, I think it is available as LX-600 but, from china make.) had pretty good freq. response. at both extremeties.
After going through lots of makes of the Music players and home theatres, I had decided to buy seperate systems and assemble them just when I experienced the Bose Lifestyle system. I was purely amazed with it as it is compact and delivers the punch as good as a movie theatre. I have got a Bose Lifestyle 18 System having AdaptIQ, a proprietary feature which sets the speakers to the room type on has so it delivers same performance in any shape of room. the system plays all DVD's but sometimes creates problems with Pirated ones. MP3 audio is supported but not WMA. Converts any signal input into 5.1 Channel audio so good output for the TV also while watching Cable. Comes with Radio Remote which works upto 60 meters. Now the present TV looks smaller for the system so need to upgrade to Plasma.
HTIB-1000 from Yamaha is a entry level home theater in a box consisting of a DVD player, amplifier, five cube sized speakers and a sub-woofer. For about US$ 900(Rs. 40,000), custom duty not included, this is quite a decent package. The sound is pretty good for cube size speakers. It does not handle DVD-Audio, but rest of all other discs are OK. There are array of surround settings. Good bargain. Yamaha does have more in the range and high end systems also but cost higher also.
However, if you are going for Yamaha, do not pick up used/reconditioned or Asian models. Theey may be scaled down version. If possible, go for the UK market versions. This assures quality and good parameters also.
We built our home theater system block by block over a period of three years. First I got a Panasonic music system with surround sound 4 speakers, 1 Dolby central speaker with VCD player which has Dolby digital sound , with 5.1 channel split provision. The later we got a Philips DVD player with 5.1 channel split outputs. Meanwhile we upgraded our WEGA TV to 29" from 21" as the prices had fallen. Lastly we got a Sony 12" midrange woofer with stand alone amplifier with frequency control, to complete the Home theater ensemble. Finally to check we got a Movie DVD with 5.1 channel split printed on the cover ( Dhoom). With 6 speakers working with channel split and if required also the WEGA's own roof-woofer, and wow ! The sound is heart stopping!! The pity is many movie DVDs do not have channel split and hence the user does not know he is not getting the best out of the system invested, venketaraman
Dude the biggest problem is not the price of home theater...the point is where do u get VCD/DVD of the latest movies or are we expected to wait for 3 months to watch movies. I think this the main reason why people watch movies in theaters
I have gone through the article 'Can't afford a home theatre system?'Its really help full. Still I am in confusion. In markets we get some Hi Fi Systems, which give good quality of music. We can play DVD and cassates as well using that. Can you suggest me which one is better, either Home theatre systems or Hi fi systems.
Hi All, I am having passion towards home theater's systems. I got my first home theater system one year back and it is from ONKYO. 5.1+Dolby+DTS+600W RMS . I got DVD player from Philips . It is Awesome to watch movies on that mini monster system .But one should have original DVD.DVD's from rental shope will not create any effects..
Hi bought Sony DAV FX10 system last year from US adn that costed me around USD $400 but truely that was worth spending that amount but now I am looking a for a plazma TV for that home theatre othrwise entertainment is half.
Have been interested in great sound and finally purchased a Harmon Kardan AV Receiver model AVR 2000 and Wharfedale Moviestar 70+. All this cost me around Rs 56,000/- in 2003. Already had a DVD player, a Philips Q35. However I have now replaced the DVD player with a Delhi brand called Takai. I have an LG player which tends to hang and hence have put it away. Find that DVD players are not important. Having an optical cable connection is to get the best sound effects.
My TV is a BPL 29" model and it is quite good even after 5 years of use. Watching movies with DTS and Dolby 5.1 with a good print is really fantastic. At night, I can reduce the bass by a special setting in the amp which reduces the dynamic range. Overall, am really glad at having purchased this combo, HK and Wharfedale. Am sure that there may be many newer models that will be better at the same price range or even less. The beauty of technology!
Hi All....I say, the Home Theatre in a Box is not really enriching experience. I would suggest you buy Yamaha Home Theatre Systems, quite affordable, very good quality output.
