I am planning to buy a Bose accoustimass 5 system from Bangalore, could anyone tell me which stereo amplifier would be compatible with it? I would need only stereo as i am more interested in music only. Would buying the amp from UK be a better option?
I have a Bose compact Speaker Home theater System supported by a Denon Amplifier. For the pocture I either use a Samcung Rear Projection 54" TV or Toshiba 1500 lumin projector fitted in my Bedroom 6.5 meter x 6 meter. You can set the distance of the speakers from the place you are watching, to get the proper sound effect. The experience is no less than a multiplex. I have stopped going to see a movie in the multiplex.
For my Living Room of approx 300 sft, the following configuration has worked out fairly well.
1) Sony DVD Player (5-DVD Changer) 2) Sony DE-597 5.1 Amp with Surround Back 3) Bose AM6 5.1 Speaker System 4) Polk Audio RM98 Centre Channel Speaker.
The Centre Channel of Bose has a very weak and requires a separate centre channel to hear the dialogues clearly. Polk and Sony CH550 have reasonably good centre channels.
I have 5.1 Channel Home Theatre costing 3000/- Company (Frontech). This is very good Home Theater in less amount but its front speaker does not work. I am running through computer and i also attached 5.1 Channel Sound Card but the front speaker does not work, so, please advice me what to do.

Frontech makes junk speakers... I baught a Philips A5.600, some 8 months back. It doesn't put MUCH of restrictions on the placement of speakers and sound quality is tooooooo good...

but then I need to buy amp. (little costly affair ).
Go to Big Bazaar of any city. There are good offers of Home theatre or else if u live in Mumbai visit Hypercity too. You will get one of your choice and Budget for sure.
I think the quality of the Home theater sytem is very important. If you buy low priced systems just for the sake of setting up a home theater system, you wont have much joy.
You need atleat a 29 inch Lcd or plasma television. You need a good quality output from DVD. Without quality output, even if you have the best speakers it wont work.
Any new sony television with sony dvd player is a good combination. Go for Harman Kardon speakers or Bang and Olufsen ones .
I got Sony DAV S300 in 1982. It is good and gives the desired effects. Compact, with digital amplifier and compact speakers it delivers 30 Watts crystal clear sound through each of the six speakers, totalling 180 Watts RMS. More than enough poiwer for our sized rooms. However for new buyers i recommend that whichever system they are buying, make sure the amplifier is digital and not analogue for desired clarity and quality. High wattage digital home theatre system becomes meaningless unless you have a very large hall. A good 200watts system will more than suffice.
For the people like me, from the middle class HTIB is the best solution. This year I bought a ONKYO HT-S580 refurbhished from US at 180$ (8100 Rs approx.) , I\'m very much satisfied with the output of 600 Watt (not PMPO). points to be remember b4 selecting a HTIB.
* For 5.1 channel output and surround, connection between the DVD player and Home theater reciever should be of Optical or Co-axial connection,so choose DVD player which support these ouputs. * Cables should be a good quality, or else may not enjoy perfect Bass. * Check the size of the room for installation, bigger the better.
I did a analysis on the outputs from various DVD\'s and CD\'s from various parts of the world. The output from pirated CD\'s (imported from Srilanka, Pakistan and local stuff) will result in inferior sound quality and some times didn\'t even feel the surround effect. The original ones played very good and enjoyed the most.
