Work-ex
by Mihir Gosalia on Jul 18, 2006 03:32 PM  Permalink

Hi,

I would suggest that if you do get the opportunity, gain some valuable work-experience first. After you've worked for a year or two, you will have a fair idea as to what your strenghts are & what exactly do you wish to do in life ? That will also help you decide as to what interests you should pursue further in your career.

Regards,

Mihir

Get some work-ex first

From my personal experience i can say that working for few years before going for MBA is much better both in terms of getting a good career start and also the pay packet. You learn quite faster and the people in the company also take you more seriously. You are now better eqipped to take serious decisions for your company as well as for urself.

Regarding MBA
by Kashish Singh on Jul 18, 2006 02:50 PM  Permalink

Hi Shalini,

In India generally you can opt for MBA just after finishing your bachelors program. There are lot many institutions which are offering integrated programs like BBA+MBA in 4 years. On the other hand when you look into the job market scenario its entirely different.I will give you a very simple example. If I have to choose between two candidates one who has done MBA after getting 2-3 years work ex and other candidate who has done just MBA after finishing his bachelors:Its very obvious I will choose the first one.See when we study something ultimately we have to put all whatever we have learn in practice. We have to implement those techiniques in our business. What we study and what we implement in our business is entirely opposite to be very frank. So somebody who has 2-3 yrs experince in the market can easily calculate what has to be implemented in practice from the course he has studied according to the market. So my advice is you should get some work experience before joining MBA program.Even if you think to pursue Foreign MBA most of the good universities in all the countries require work experience.
All the best

MBA or Work Experience
by Zameer Ahmed on Jul 18, 2006 02:45 PM  Permalink

Dear Shalini,

As far as your question is concerned my view is you first of all be clear with the specialization you want to move ahead in MBA. Based on that you chose whether to go for work experience or not. I did my MBA soon after my Graduation as an Engineer. Do you believe that you will get a good profile as if now as a Commerce graduate. If not you please gp ahead with your MBA and then go for work. I wish you all the best

Working experience is preferred for an MBA.
by Yogesh Joshi on Jul 18, 2006 02:35 PM  Permalink

Hi Shalini,

I am also completing my gradution in Commerce this year. I have been working as a financial professional since start of my UG cource and now I am going to join MBA programme through distance education. I will suggest you to get some work experience before joining MBA. Most of the distance learning business colleges ask for min 2-3 years of working experience for MBA programmes. As far as employers are concerned, they always prefere an experienced person over fresher, whether he is not having enough education on papers. So, get some experience as a financial professional in small size organization, complete your MBA in min time and then go for a managerial job in big industries.

Regards

Yogesh

MBA or Experience?
by chandraye on Jul 18, 2006 02:32 PM  Permalink

Its always nice to go ahesd and pursue further studies as thats gonna be a strong asset for the longterm and helps one understand strategy and Business, however doing a part time job related to your ambition or Forte gives an added advantage to your practical knowledge that helps you move on in the corporate sector with more poise and confidence.

thanks
