MBA
by vijay on Jul 19, 2006 08:28 AM  Permalink

Hi,

This is vijay. I did my MBA in systems and now working as a Research Analyst. Its good to have work experience before doing MBA. Then it will be easy for you to cope up with the competitive environment.

Many of the B-schools provide campus placements. They prefer young, energetic individuals who can understand current business scenario. So, decision making is important before joining a B-school if u r a fresher.

If u want a job off-campus then its better to have 1-2 years of work-ex. Employees recruits both freshers as well as experienced graduates. But u should have experience in the fields like systems, Finance, mktg etc.

Thanks & Regards

vijay

regarding MBA
by samir on Jul 19, 2006 04:44 AM  Permalink

hi ..
yes mba is generally preferred after a gud amt of exp in a job for abt 4-5 yrs. But for all practical purposes, see if u really want an mba. If ur intrinsic worth to firm(s) is more wid out an mba, then why waste time n money on an mba.

Is work ex preffered or MBA
by Harish on Jul 19, 2006 02:21 AM  Permalink

Hi Shalini,

I would preferrably advise you to prepare for MBA than going for work ex, taking into consideration about educational backgroud. Normally in IIM the workex candidatees are mostly engineers or CAs. I don\'t suggest for work experience because I think It will be better if you get an MBA as soon as possible. though work ex guys get a little better numeration but if you have a MBA from good institute it doesn\'t matter much.

by Paridhi Goel on Jul 18, 2006 11:21 PM  Permalink

hi Shalini. dis is paridhi.m doing my MBA from BIMTECH,Greater Noida.i myself worked for a year in a BPO and dn started MBA.this had many benefits for me....i gave many entrance exmas in my final year to get an edge in entrance exams, only to have an idea,dn i started working in one of the reputed BPO's. aftr a year,i again gave the exams and cleared.i was given preferences at many places for having a work experience. so i wud suggest you to have some industry experience first n then MBA. It makes a lot of difference...bye...all the best.

Reply : Is Work-ex preferred for an MBA?
by Kamal on Jul 18, 2006 10:16 PM  Permalink

DEFINITELY Work Experience.
What does an MBA entail? It is a taught knowledge and process for an existing know-how person to better in their management skills. You cannot understand half the Management principles without having basic knowledge of your tasks and functions. The real Organisation is very different then what we see in the books. YOu need to be a supervisor or a worker first to thoroughly capture Strategy.
