Work Experience First
by Kishore on Jul 19, 2006 10:19 AM  Permalink

I would rather say first know the practical world and get some exposure to the work environment and then say, after 2 years or so, take up an MBA program from a reputed institute.

I have done by MBA from Osmania University and now into the work arena, facing a dialema whether to do my MS or go for some functional training.........

One year work expeience is better than two year theory..
by fazil vn on Jul 19, 2006 10:07 AM  Permalink

I prefer to say work first, because you can get into

an working enviournment, where you can learn about theconcern, difficulties, how to overcome it by time and

resource management.Later if u join MBA , it will

be better for your career ,like doing practical first

and theory...Definitely it will be an added advantage..

WISH U ALL THE BEST..

is work expreferred for an MBA
by praveen kumar on Jul 19, 2006 10:03 AM  Permalink

Dear student,
To have solution, first we need to have a problem. MBA is like problem solving tool.It embrace professional to develop problem solving skills. untill or unless you are not aware of the day to day problem of corporate, learning MBA will not be beneficial. Many of MBAs from USA ask for work experience being one of the reason.

views regarding doing MBA course
by varun sharma on Jul 19, 2006 09:57 AM  Permalink

i passed out last year from NIT surathkal from where i did my mech. engg.as i joined my first company and have completed my first year now i feel that now i am in a better position to choose in which field my interest lies for persuing my MBA, rather directly joining the course from my college.

as this is a lifetime decision, it does take time to choose.

MBA or work experience? which should be first?
by Joby Aluvangal on Jul 19, 2006 09:49 AM  Permalink

I beleive one should have a couple of experience in the related field before opting for an MBA degree. This will help to understand many theoretical jargons in the course which otherwise may feel like undigestable.

Is work-ex preferred for an MBA?
by Syed Zia Abbas on Jul 19, 2006 09:35 AM  Permalink

Hi

Practically speaking, no knowledge is adequate.Learning is an ongoing process. So doing MBA or any other course definitely has a upper hand. But being a professional I can better understand whats the importance of experience once you enter into a corporate world.

Once you become a professional. you may come across a person who is just a graduate but is heading some department.Thats because he started his career immediately after his graduation. And this is a fact that every industry at some point of time do give weightage to the experience.

Now a days we have sach a facility that one can study and at the same time he can work also. Most of the well known management institutes have a program for working executives. Somewhere, company's also provide education leaves.

So education coming late in life has less impact compared to the lesser experience. But this also is to be noted that the success for the lesser qualified person is at a deminishing rate than compared to the better qualified person.

Regards

Work Exp.
by Madhu on Jul 19, 2006 09:27 AM  Permalink

Hi shalini,

Hi This is madhu, working as a Software Eng.

Work exp. is not requried for doing MBA, but I would suggest that work in some where and gain some exp. and then go for MBA. Then you will be in a position from where you can gain more from MBA. If you go directly into MBA studies you may not get much out of it as you will study it as any other course. By working form one year you will come to know what all you need to focus while studying.

bye hope that you will choose what ever you fell better.
