I completed my graduation in bms 2004. I worked with Dun & Bradstreet and Asian Paints Ltd and now left my job for my MBA. See Work Ex is not really important to do an MBA. Even institutes like IIMs don't take all work ex guys & gals. Work ex (prior MBA) just give you the feel of working in corporate world. You will see and meet different kinds of people and learn from their experience. Also you work under pressure, sometimes get insulted and come across problems which are not actually taught in Bschools. Doing MBA gives you knowledge, Degree certificate & placement. If you are just graduate your growth is at very slow pace, whereas if you are MBA you directly land at junior management. So doing MBA after work experience will categorise you under lateral placement candidate (which definately gives you high salary job during placement) as you are fit to handle from very next day(and also expected). If you are age conscious and want to start early with high paying job, with good designation, then straight away do MBA. If you wish to do a job, apply for those which will give you knowledge, hardwork and good brand (may be salary will be low). HIGHER RISK HIGHER PROFIT!!!
I understand for a fresher like you, you ought to have such a query. My stand on to this would be..i am a graduate(BMS) and currently working. I think this really makes sense because then you can easily relate work with your study.
But at the same time,my sister has done her MBA and then started working. And she says it's no use doing MBA since theory and work life is taotally different.
It all depends somehow on what is your priority is it Money or is it work experience.
I would suggest you take up work and consequently study.
I am doing my MBA from Edinburgh Business School in UK.I have 3 yrs of exp at management level..my advise to anyone who has just finished graduation is get some corporate exp, understand how things work ,how communication are done...etc and then do MBA.it will be more easier for you to understand the concepts of MBA rather than doing as a fresher.
But you should have that dedication to do it coz majority of people i have seen have tendency to drop the plan of doing MBA once they get job.
I have been working a reputed company for the last 14 years in Accounts & Finance Dept. With this I am
doing MBA with specialisation in Finance (three year course ) from Institute of Management Technology Gaziabad under Distant learning Programme.Right now I am in the final
year of this course(started in Dec 04)
Does this will help me in my professional career ?
I m doing my b com this year after i want to do MBA plz tell show me some good way, for where i have to g for MBA which one will be good for me for better mba as well as great exprience.
This is Nishant, an MBA in Finance and right now working with a company which is in the field of risk management.
Its really a very interesting question that u asked and I am quiet sure different people will respond differently. It completely depends how do the people think about it?
What can I advice for you or any other like you who is just at the outset of her/his career, must think about her/his capability and the time frame under what you have to achieve your desired result. One thing that I would like to mention here that many companies ask for the trainees (as a fresh MBA Graduate) so that they could mould these trainees according to their expectations and requirement.
And this is also a fact that as the time passes the ability to sit on a table-chair and study a lot of reference book to get better marks in the MBA (pre and post) exams declines.
Regarding colleges, if u ask then in a single line I can say- Believe in the Best and only Best.
Any more specific question u can ask at kr_nishantkr@rediffmail.com, if I could answer better. I feel since I have faced these issues, I can tell you better.
I did my B Tech in the year 2005. I had a similar dilemma whether to go for an MBA right then or after some years of experince.
After around 1 years of experience i feel that gaining work experience is more important. It opens a new perspective of life, the new way of thinking . It imbibes a new atitute in you and that is more important when you will do a professional course like an MBA. You would definately appreciate the thing that are taught there more.
