I agree with lots of people here that we shudn't compare both the institutes... each of them is doing good in it's own way... let us compare with the Business Schools abroad... our any of these IIMs/ISB/St.Xaviers,etc doesn't even come in the list of top schools.
pls don't waste time on comparing the institutes... all the success of these institutes is mainly because of the individuals' success. there are only a small portion of students who get very good packages that are mentioned here... what abt the rest of the students?
RE:Why MBA?

Do you expect everyone to be a narayana murthy? there are peole without MBA's who are succssful. but i am afraid your message under estimates the importance of MBA in finetuning of ones management skills. In that case since some scientists did not have a degree we sould stop studying science in schools
This is a marketing brochure of ISB, very cleverly placed. I am an IIM Alumnus, but i firmly believe in the potential of ISB as a top dollar grosser for Indian MBAs. It has all the right fundamentals. The difference between IIMs and ISB is the difference between AIIMS and Apollo Hospitals.
re. diversity.. i do think that a batch of 200 gives a lot more diversity than a smaller batch.. and that, diversity is not just abt experiences. The freshers have ideas.. and that is diversity too.. how boring to have people who have been jaded by their work ex, and cannot think "why not this?" any more. There is a reason why some companies prefer freshers. And they bring a definite value add.
Well, we cant compare ISB & IIM based on just intrinsic parameters & one salary based output factor. To a large extent ISB & IIM's still face a lot of challenges before the outcomes from these institutes are indeed successful overwhelmingly in matching the western counterparts. There is a much hype for IIM's based on conversion of foreign currency figures into Indian Rupees. But this sum is not even enough to get into the standards of living of an average corporate personnel in these countries. We are so busy counting the success of a few students based on their individual talents that we have never tried to count on the failures. What the indian business schools need to inculcate in their sylabus is some amount of etiquettes studies & communication skills. Indians are appreciated for their technical skills, what holds them back from climbing corporate ladders is business etiquette, practical approach & communication skills. Even the IIM grads find themselves rusting in the middle management here, which is due to their technical skills rather than appreciation of managements qualifications. As far as India is concerned no doubt IIM/ISB grads occupy the top management positions
Well, as many of you have pointed out there's absolutely no comparison between brand IIM and the ISB.The article sure looks like a marketing stunt for ISB. I am studying in a US B school and have many friends studying in IIMs and the ISB.Because ISB draws in people with an average work experience of 4-5 years, I guess an average salary of 11 lac INR is no big deal.(Consider the fact that these figures are skewed. Most of the salaries fall in the range 7-10 lac INR).Most of the people who enter IIMs are fresh college passouts and everyone knows what they are paid.(avg 9-10 lac INR this year?) There may be many good things(infrastructure, flexibility, faculty et al.) about ISB but it is yet to hit a good balance between being known as an international B school and a Indian B school that can compete with the IIM curriculum.Just having faculty from premier US/UK B schools doesn't make a school 'The premier B school'. The fee ISB charges is way too high for the value it offers.Ask me the fee I am paying at one of the top 20 US B schools.;)It is very less compared to what I would have payed at ISB.I guess an MBA from IIMs or a good US/UK MBA is any day more valuable than ISB MBA.
