I would like to add another important thing about the Devraj coffee corner,Its preferably called as German Bakery by the localities there. i have spent 4 yrs of life at Rishikesh and have visited this German Bakery quite often. Its really a wonderful place and usually crowded by foreign visitors. Byt ya for sur this place is worth a visit whenever you are i Rishikesh. Food is really wonderful ....
wow??? I had been to rome recently and I had a lovely indian meal at a restaurant near the vatican city. Why are we making this a relegious argument ...and vegetarian Italian has almost the same simple ingredients ...rice(chawal), flour(atta) , chesse (paneer), tomatoes(tamatar) , lentils( dal) ...all combined to make a simple meal...just the cooking process and the way the ingredients are mixed are diffrent....so open your hearts and let be.....
Have you guyz ever noticed that our country is nothing but a big circus, all the free ppl in the world get together and make a huge issue out of nothing :-)) You know you guyz can all beee good politicians. Jay ho, prabhu, jay ho.
well this is truly fron my heart for what i felt personally when i got the opportunity to visit haridwar ,rishikesh for the first time in my life though i guess its never so late as i am in my mid 30's .but it was real heaven like feelings as we were there for 2 days .we stayed in the temple ..the KRISHNA temple runned by ickon group.the food we were served was excellent in taste . n in the back side one can have full view of ganga ....its real spritual enviroment and i feel all shuld visit .
Its a great idea.I am sure foreigners particularly Europeans and other Westerners who visit Risikesh will love it.Full marks to the promoter to have stictly followed the local culture of serving only Veg food.It is the same Atta Dal and Aloo from the local markets cooked differently and with some particular spice and sauce give it the Italian taste and feel.Dont understand why Madhoo's of this world are so myopic and hasseled. The same Madhoo will hunt for an Indian Restraunt when at Vatican in Rome.
I am a devout Hindu and come from an orthodox family that visits and stays at the Sivananda ashram - Divine life society regularly and I firmly believe there is something divine about the place.
But that in no way gives me or anyone else the right to demand everyone else think the same way and pretend that having an Italian restaurant in Rishikesh amounts to desecration of holy land. This is a dirrect attack on individual freedom.
The next thing u know, this crowd would demand all visitors to Rishikesh walk bare foot. And if u extend their logic a bit further..... the Himalayas are sacred so no one may drive vehicles around!!! And pants and shirts are alien to Indian culture so no one may wear them. Only dhoties and saris allowed. Oh and of course TV is a western product and makes u forget ur indian roots so cut down on TV and radio and newspapers. Sounds familiar !!!
This is the INDIAN what the Taliban did in Afghanisthan.
I luv Rishikesh for what it stands for....everything that is spiritual and divine. And I would probably not visit this italian restaurant..whaever its called. But people that luv other aspects of Rishikesh have their rights ... and I respect them.
Hey Nirav, Nice article- it not only mentions the variety this destination has to offer but also the close proximity to nature while you can relish your grub! I am sure you might have had one great vacation to remember. I will make it to this coffee house on my trip to Rishikesh.
I m happy to see that people atleast care of the image of spiritual India. Its not Madhu's fault who molded this topic towards simplicity and spirituality, but infact we Indians should really think over this matterDoes it really suggest that to have a change of taste means we r culturally open?? Place like Rishikesh n Haridwar should be kept aloof from such things. I have one ques to all So Called Indians... Did you try all varieties of foods available in India itself ? I m sure no one.... then why u r justifying your greed of tongue with patriotism ? Thanks to MNC'S who r doing all such things and we feel proud to have McDs like restaurants in our place because we respect other cultures.
What's wrong in that? Dont put your thoughts so narrowed!! Be broad minded and try to learn from other cultures, thats where we are really lagging sir....
