The following posts have appeared on another rediff message board on flying in times of terror. They may be useful to you:
Subject: Flying in the time of terror
Long lines at airport security check, checking of baggage before entering the terminal and also before boarding the flight. Each and every piece of cloth was checked. But the good thing was that everyone was thoroughly checked irrespective of his nationality, color, race.
We were warned before hand that not to carry any liquid items including gels, oils, deos, toothpaste, which were some of the essential items for us.
I advice fellow travellers to carry as less items as possible and in case of catching an international flight, please be at airport 2 hrs prior to your flight.

Subject: Hard Time at Airport!
I came to USA on a trip, and while returning from a tour to Nigara falls, WDC, NY etc, I was to board my morning flight at 6.15 at the International Airport, Philadelphia on 10th August so as to reach Chicago in time by 9.30 for celebrating my 63rd Birthday with my daughter's family! Alas, the unexpected security check, chaos in checking in NW airlines due to slow handling of things by NW desk staff, followed by harrowing scurtiny of luggage at the "Chick-in" queues (though I was an hour in advance) resulted in missing my flight and had to catch the connecting flight at Detroit at 12.30pm, finally landing in Chicago, Midway by 1.30 pm; tired and jaded. The small gifts like double pack of 'lipstick&Nail polish', Sun protection cream, shampoo and hair conditioners and tooth paste, were all confiscated making a mess of my Carry on!
But glad that I landed safe in one piece, Birth day party or no party!!
I am Tejveer S. Walia from Jalandhar City, Punjab, INDIA. I am into the final year of my three year Bachelor of Commerce degree which I will complete in May, 2007. However after that I want to pursue my MBA in US, but after much search I have come to know that almost all reputed and well institutions in U.S or Canada require a 2-4 years of work experince for enrollling in MBA degree and as MBA is just like a lifetime investment in one's carrer so it should be undergone quite seriously and above all from a well insitute only which can boost your resume.
So, I have decided that I will score well in GMAT after my B.Com and will enroll in a one year degree/diploma course related to Management in US after completing which I will work for a couple of years and finally when I have gained work experince then only I will go for my MBA.
I Would be greatly thankful to you if you can refer me such one year valubale course as I mentioned above in US.
Hello: If our F1 visa expires then what should we do? Do we need to go to India to renew it or can we go to Mexico or Canada. If so which place do we need to go in Mexico. Is there any website that I can get relevant information. Please let me know.

once your F1 expired, get another I-20 from the university and you need not to get visa stampled unless you are leaving the country. So, if you will get another valid I-20 yous status is good until you are not leaving USA.
I want to pursue my Ph.D. in Finance and/or Accounting
in a leading University/ies of US. While pursuing my Ph.D. I simultaneously want to do part-time teaching in University/Colleges in US so that my expenses of US
could be met smoothly.
I have a Professional degree of Cost and Management Accountancy (ICWA) and MBA (Finance) with me. The Research degree which I have so far got is M.Phil. in (Accounting).
Kindly tell me the full procedure of getting registered in Ph.D. programme over there and about the
scholarship for meeting out the whole expenditure done on Ph.D.
If possible, then please rush me the details (whole information) at my home address given below.

Jha saheb, you have very good credentials to get admit in PHD. Make sure you have a good GRE score, good recomendation letters, paper publication, good essay about ur plans of research to make ur case strong. In almost all the cases a PHD candid will be provided with some kind of assistantship, so dont worry about that. Admid in a PHD course is more iportant than funding. Once you got admit make sure to talk to your major prof about future fundins as he will be responsible for ur funding.

Selection of universities depends on your GRE score expectation. My my personal experience Powerprep CBT's are very accurate to judge your score. Apply 2 safe univsand 2 good chance univs. Best of luck for ur GRE.
