by Nishu on Apr 22, 2006 02:21 PM  Permalink

Wow!! Well done. Very nice advocacy against reservation.

But One more fact is there which you forget to point out. so allow me to just add up.. OBC are those poeple who wants reservation and donot own the certificate of SC/ST. This is a sick decision from an (un)educated PM and from that #@!@# arjun singh.

and all of you plz dont talk about PM's caste. Everyone knows it.

Regards,
Nishu

We need caste based reservations so that people polarise themselves on caste lines and vote for the party implenting it.

Reservation in Institutions
by Ravi on Apr 21, 2006 03:16 PM  Permalink

The article made some sensible points. The idea of India means many things depending on where one stands in the Universe that we call India.
But going by the simple definition of India as a nation state and a republic, the idea of India is to build a strong nation and founded upon the ideals already laid down in the constitution.
The nation is best served by its institutions that should not recognise any division in their functioning.
Institutions must set their purpose clearly, explicitly and apply them to such operations as selection, mode of delivery, evaluation of performance based on those parameters which enable them to function efficiently to discharge their resposibility.
If the aim of an educational institute is to foster excellence in learning then this policy must apply without any compromise.
I perceive reservation in any form whether by fiat or by money or even by legislation is a travesty of the fundamental principles for which the Institution is founded.Any implementation of such sentiments is committing a a fraud on those who abide by it.

hell to casteism
by RD on Apr 21, 2006 02:39 PM  Permalink

Casteist policies are so deeply engraved in our blood, I can show casteism to you everywhere: From Law and Justice (which is above all) to picking a hardware engineer for my colleagues new office ... I have seen it everywhere.

Will it ever go ??? I don't think so. Because India may be a secular country, but its people have a very communal thought process. Sometimes, I feel it is better if each religion is a different nation. At least, people will not discriminate on the basis of caste.

Continuance....IRRELEVANT ARGUMENT
by liberalindian on Apr 21, 2006 02:33 PM  Permalink

How many outcastes did you have as friends in school/college/workplace? Im sure none. Cause none would want to make friends.
When your brethren get hitched isnt CASTE important??
Caste was never irreverent to Indians.

Indians will never prosper mentally and spiritually whether they are here or Abroad.
Caste is a part and parcel of you. Cause thats the only thing you cant change in your life. You will die as you were born.

IRRELEVANT ARGUMENT !!!!!
by LiberalIndian on Apr 21, 2006 02:32 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

You said Class is not necessarily linked to Caste and need facts and figures to accept arguments.
Girl, Have you ever visited any village ever? If so, then go to the periphery where youll see outcastes living(SC/ST). How is the 'value of education' drilled into them ,when they are without basic amenities like water, food and ostracized from entering villages/temples. Survival is the key.
Similarly, I feel, caste had become irrelevant to a significant number of young people.
Availability and Eating of Southern food in North and vice versa means We re more UNITED than 50 years ago.
Chinese is available and more popular than all, so ?? Its an obscure way of defining UNITY.
When you cited Brahman population of UP not reaching an average of 12% literacy by 1911, you got your history wrong. Cause UP has the maximum number of Brahmins in India with many being land-owners. So education wasnt a means to live, unlike in most states where theyre a minority with hand-to-mouth struggle and Education is their main forte.
Opportunities are not created for all but a few privileged. How is it that marwaris get a foothold in every place in India??Only because of caste.
