by LAXMAN SASTRY on Jan 25, 2007 11:44 AM  Permalink

An ordinary man cannot visit a dentist once in two months. I have visited a dentist who charges Rs.2000/- for root canel the decayed tooth. But the problem is still there. For scalling the charge is Rs.600/-. How can an ordinary man can get his teeth checked once in two months

Unbelievable
by Dr. Bopiah on Oct 11, 2005 10:23 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

How ironical could this article get. One has heard of lack of awareness in the general populus about their teeth and gums and here you have an article which shows inadequate and unsafe knowledge on the part of the dentist posting her views!

Few clarifications to readers:

1. No dentist should ever take x-rays of your teeth for documentation purposes only, unless things like decay or gum disease indicate it. X-rays for documentation as mentioned in the article is totally and completely regarded as UNSAFE DENTISTRY.
2. The article mentions that you should brush your teeth at least twice a day, on the contrary you should brush your teeth a maximum of two times a day. Brushing more frequently than twice daily does not whiten or reduce the possibility of developing decay but surely wears your enamel out faster making your teeth look yellower (as enamel is white and the tooth layer underneath it, dentin, is yellow in colour.
3. Lastly for the information of the dentist, in ultrasonic scaling the water jet does not and cannot remove plaque, for by definition plaque is an organic matrix that cannot be removed by rinsing or with air or water jets, in scaling it is the scaler tip that physically removes plaque.

Just for the record I am a practising dentist MDS in Mumbai.

cheers,

Dr. Bopiah

Casual Checkup?
by Ravi Kanth on Oct 11, 2005 11:53 AM  Permalink

I dont think any one dares to go to doctor without any symptoms these days. This is partly due to the way SOME doctors respond even for a casual checkup. As the patient knows nothing about the science of human body, these doctors take advantage of it to make money. So how can one make a casual visit if he finds hard to get treatment for the aliment he already has.
