My husaband is infected with chickenpox which was comfirmed by the doctor today (3rd march)... he is at his early stages... where we can see red popups..... the actual problem is my son is 11 months and 10 days old... and his first birthday is on 23 march.... i understand that children above 12 months are vaccinated for chickenpox... i did check with my pediatrician and he said that we can go a head with the vaccination if his birthday is in another 20 days... i am writing this to u to get a second opinion on the above mentioned case. And i also want to know whts are the chances that my son will also be infected with the disease.
I dont understand the following: If I give a head bath with shampoo: water and soap will enter the sores, will this not infect further? How will I get his hair and body dry, if I give a head bath? 2. Normally when you give a chana dal bath, you scrub the body. Am I supposed to scrub the body with chana dal when he has the infection? Then will he not get infection? Will the dal powder not enter the sores and create infection?? I find this article hard to beleive Sesha

The head bath will not cause infection and will only help keep the body cool. As for the chana dal bath, scrubbing is not at all recommended. The bath should not be given when the blisters are at their peak cause breaking them will cause scarring.
While it is indeed very laudable that you are dispensing good advice to people far and near, please be cautioned that lay people dont know how to "use" the information. For examaple you have given the complications that Chiken Pox can cause during pregnancy.. all very well expect for someone already pregnant and with no recognised immunity to the disease. Belive me, she will get paranoid and would not want to step out of her house. I can tell this with some confidence because unfortunately my non resistance to the disease was detected during my pregnany and I was advised to keep away from kids ( i was in the US then ). We all know that this Pox can be infected even before the scabs appear so i was a little apprehensive till i delivered. But i CHOSE NOT TO KNOW the complications had i got it then. Because there was nothing i could do THEN except worry and worry more ! Your ideas on Chicken Pox vaccination is more welcome.. but please stick to such positves rather than divulgin the negatives.. it causes mental trauma. I contracted C Pox when my baby was 3 mos from my grand mother who had Herpes Zoster ! Thankfully i did not read your "adult Pox complications" then!
In West Bengal, Chicken Pox is not considered as an infectious desease!! Working persons affected with chicken pox are not entitled to get Leave on Quarantine. It is simply ridiculuous.
