I had done the Ladakh trip from Ambala to Leh, Nubra valley,Pangong Lake, Tso Moriri lake, Zhanskar Valley, Dras,Kargil,Srinagar,Jammu in June 2005 on a 32 year old Yezdi motorcycle(inherited from my father,a single owner motorcycle) with a group of 7 yezdi owners, the oldest byke being a 1956 Jawa model. What can I say of the place.I agree how much preparation you do to plan the ride would not be sufficient until you actually rode that distance. The high moment of the ride was the ride to Khardungla and the satisfaction of riding a vintage byke to the world's highest motorable road..a childhood dream realized...The difference one can see between Ladakh region, Zhanskar valley and Kashmir is a stark contrast between brown and green.Photographs won't give you the idea of how beautiful the place is nor any travel logs. You need to experience it to believe it.And when you experience it know feel if you are dreaming..You need to pinch yourself to actually believe it is true.
Hi Prerna, I believe you are a member of same group who is regular visitor of LEH-SIACHIN. Once I too travelled with same dutta, Tribhuvan , Allwyn. I lost contact with these guys when I moved from Delhi. If possible can you please mail me there contact infor or ask them to mail me at Sanjay@syadav.com. I would appriciate if you can pass this info to them. Thanks, Yadav
You need to put more life into your article. I have been on a jeep expedition from manali to ladakh and have gone through mountain sickness symptoms. worst was at Sarchu camp. try putting some emotions of what you have experienced into your article. Rohan
seems like u had a nice trip .. want to write more abt this trip .. a more detailed write up wud be fun to read ,,, u can mail me at soni_atul@rediffmail.com
Hi Prerna Raturi, this is perhaps the worst article I would have ever read speaking about biking. were you writing for the teenagers of Delhi schools who can buy jazzy bikes like anythin. Man, you should have taken more time to write this piece which could have been wonderful had you paid some attention. It is downright useless. There is no mention of the kind of bikes you must take to that place, the proper gear, just few mentions here and there dont do the job as you think they would. Dont try hard to prove people's misconception that women and biking dont go together. undertake one such trip and then do the piece. Kirit

Hey Kirit,
Not necessary: a) that a writer experience everything that s/he writes about. b) to conclude that the writer of this piece has not been on a biking trip to ladakh.
I do agree that lot more in terms of bikes/equipment/gear could have gone into the said piece, maybe that was not what the writer wanted to or was comissioned to do? An enthusiast or a novice can get tons of info and read travelogues on trekking/cycling/biking in ladakh; just google.
Meanwhile your standard comments and views on looking down at women and their achievments is par for the course. What else can we "normal" men do?
She has been to Leh. On a bike. The article was for beginners. There's only so much you can cover for something as vast and complicated and expansive as a trip to Leh on a bike. For those who are really keen will have to do a lot lot more spadework. After all, even Lonely Planets give you only so much info. Thanks for the criticism, though.
