Oil For Deep Frying?

Most of south india dishes use oil mainly for deep frying purposes.
It would be great if you provide some information about oil that is best suitable for our type cooking?
I am asking this because, I have read that Olive Oil is not good for deep frying.... THEY SAID IT WAS BECAUSE OF VERY LOW SMOKING TEMPERATURE...
It would be great if you guys provide more articles on OILS that suits our food style
