Who benefits ??????
by RANJAN CHAUDHARY on Sep 15, 2004 09:09 PM  Permalink

For the common people these fares are still too high.It is true that the airlines are offering lower fares because of competition but alas it is still out of reach of common people who would still prefer to pay a lower amount by travel by train.

These fares will help the private companys & govt. who pay lower for the air travel of their em[loyees.

In fact the government should step in and lower the various taxes, landing fees ,parking fees etc.etc. etc. to enable common people who have to shell out the amount from their own pocket to be able to fly.

There is no time to fly like tomorrow

Your survey had taken in to account only the major established players in the Indian market today. But Air Deccan with its 500/- and 1000/- ticket is going to play another reliance mobile in the air travel sector. Even today when I browsed their website, airdeccan.net, DEL BOM DEL is approx 3200/- including taxes, if you book now for MArch 2005.A child ticket is 60% of this fare. Who would like to travel in trains now if one can fix there travel itinery two to three months in advance. Ideal for householders and students.

What a joke! And you can't blame the airlines ...
by Aravind Nair on Sep 09, 2004 08:03 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Comparison:

Flying distance from B'lore to Pune: approx 700 Kms. The cheapest one-way fare is Rs.2,345 as given in the article, so two-way can be taken as Rs.4,690.

Flying distance from S'pore to Phuket (Thailand): 959 Kms. You can book a TWO-way ticket 7 days in advance for just SGD88 (Rs.2,300 approx.). And that is not on a budget airline but on a regular airline.

From today's news in S'pore - a budget airline is offering one-way ticket from S'pore to Bangkok (1,425 Kms) for just S$0.59 (Rs.15 !!!)

Remember - Thailand is a developing country like India

We may have won Independence in 1947, but we as a people have not won economic FREEDOM from the "ruling class" of whatever hue and shade.

Hi Arvind,

I agree with what you have mentioned there but what you missed out on are SUPER HIGH taxes imposed by our Govt. Ex. Landing, Parking and other facilities in India is more expensive vs the places you mentioned. Fuel is taxed and is cheaper in Asean countries. Over and above this - Airline has to pay more in order to get an Aircraft in India (rupee - dollar conflict adds insult to injury). This does not stop here; one has to pay through the nose for Engineering & maintenance (big contribution to costs).

Looking at all this I think we should appreciate what various Airlines are trying to do.

If you have to heir a A/C car it will cost you 7-8 rupees / kilometer whereas you can fly from Mumbai to Delhi for just 3.2 rupees (under Apex) & also as low as 1.1 rupee per kilometer with a low cost guy if you are lucky.

We are, very fast approaching an era where cost of Air travel will be lower than cost of transportation to / from the Airport.

Cheers - Anil

air fare
by vijendra singh on Sep 09, 2004 03:22 AM  Permalink

hey you know the funiest part is how do people account for travel on their personal accounts

when ppl only have salaries of around 25 k to 40 k to manage families ,, i think these have to be subsidised by atleast 10 times

else it will remain free fund travel by netas (bhikari's) and ppl who travel on their company expenses
