lucky rajasthan royals...... !
by shane bond on Jun 01, 2008 07:35 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

i think rajasthan royals are lucky.... cause if hayden, hussey and oram had not left, it would have been not a final but a funeral for them.... they are really lucky to be the favourites at this point......and probably should thank cricket australia for calling the great guns back...lol

Or else maybe its CSK who are lucky that they haven't become another Deccan Chargers...

Till date the success of the teams has been evident in young eager talent.
When in the course of a tourney a non-entity raised himself to stardom (Shaun Marsh) he provided the very anti-climax we have so often been subjected to by the super stars (a la Yuvi, Viru, Jayasuriya, Sachin, Ishant, occasionally Dhoni too..).

Whereas the Asnodkars, Gonys, Dindas, Trivedis, Tanvirs etc. are happily going about their business doing what they know how to do best - i.e. play cricket.. not talk like stars and behave like stars..

The Chennai Tandoor
by T D on Jun 01, 2008 07:23 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

For all the famous South Indian cuisine, the one we never heard about was the Chennai Tandoor. And boy was it on display tonite for all cricket afficianados to savor. Punjab batting was first finely marinated by some accurate bowling from Chennai and then Punjab bowling received some high temperature roasting from Raina and Patel. To add salt to this, the Mumbai crowd firmly supported the Dhoni's men with a sea of yellow, inspite of Punjab team having distributed 'white flags'. A Punjab team that looked impressive on paper merely remained so -- a team good on paper, with their batsmen falling off like headless chicken. Yuvy for all his bravado, couldn't come up with any recipe to contain Chennai. In end, Chennai had them for dinner tonite and boy did it taste good.

You can safely say that the way Chennaites tuck into their bisi bele rice with gusto, much the same way, CSK devoured Kings 11 piecemeal...it was a no match and i had predicted this a couple of days back..

Reason : Body language of both captains...Yuvi all tensed and wanting to take revenge etc and MSD all cool and a faint mystewrious smile almost as if he had already planned Yuvi's debacle...
MSD vs Yuvi has now become a bit of a Men vs Boys kind of contest...a no-contest and a no-brainer....
And the Punjabi still believes that he can convince the Indian selectors that he can be a better captain than MSD...some temerity!!!!!!!

Heart warming display by Chennai super kings!!
by Bhasmasur on Jun 01, 2008 07:18 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

To see Siva Mani going crazy with his drums and then to see a beaming Krish Srikanth was a very happy and abiding memory of the IPL semifinal!!

Till now, Rajasthan Royals has been my favourite team but seeing the way in which CSK played, i think the final will be very very very very close and it could go to the wire...

Back to semifinal, the bowling display of Ntini and goni and then the virtuoso batting by Parthiv and Raina put paid to the hopes of Kings 11..Seeing Raina bat today, i will have to revise my opinion about the most talented young batsman in the country...i always thought that Rohit sharma was the most talented yungster but after seeing Raina, i'am convinced that he is the most talented and versatile!! What a Range of shots..amazing maan!!

Indian future in really secure hands.....
Just food for thought for all of you : How dangerous will CSK be next year when Hussey, Oram, Hayden and Fleming play on a full tiem basis as per contract?? They might become unbeatable!!!!!!

They will NEVER become another Deccan chargers...and i'll tell you why..

Cos Haydos and Hussey(dunno about Oram...New Zealanders generally have a very hard bitten mentality) have a tremendous work ethic...they keep fit and slog in the nets for hours...Hayden and Hussey are the consummate professionals..

But can you say the same about Gibbsy, Afridi and RP Singh?? Nah.....all 3 of them have questionable work ethics...It is believed that Gibbs should have been among the top 3 batsmen in the world only if he had the tenacity and toughness of Tendulkar...he is an underachiever...Afridi...the less said, the better!!
Styris has always been a question mark for me.....

So, don't compare CSK to Deccan.......Gilly is too soft a person and that is the main reason they did not do well...the team mebers took advantage of Gilly's soft nature....Had it been Warnie or MSD, deccan would have been a top team!!

Bhasma:

I am not comparing CSK to Deccan... cool down... All I am pointing out is that big names may actually have hampered CSK's progress..

But I admire your selective retention and more selective presentation.. ;-)

Gibbsy, Afridi and RP are the powerful names that made Deccan Chargers the star studded team it was?... ;-)

Just so you wanted to get in your work ethic point obliquely in, you brought out the names from your kitty... ;-)

You named three names and doubted their work ethic. I will ask you what's your take on the WORK ETHIC of two more names - a certain Adam Gilchrist who is known to have the ability to hit a few runs and keep wickets reasonably well, and a certain Andrew Symonds... ;-)

Exactly....that is the point i was trying to make....It is not a case of selective retention....rather it is the case of identifying those 3 names in Deccan chargers who were expected to do great things but failed miserably...and their flop show hurt the deccan chargers the most!!
Well, those 3 are the ones that i mentioned......

Gibbsy - Was expected to provide fiery and quick starts...failed competely!!
Afridi - Expected to accelerate towards the end or the middle overs...failed miserably
RP Singh - Expected to provide early wickets and keep scoring rate down...failed on both counts...

About Symo..he was here only for 1/4th of IPL and Gilly as a captain was too soft in his nature....
Symo, in his limited appearances did well...

Dunno about their individual psychology, but for sure Chennai players played with lot more authority.

Supposed stars like Marsh, Hopes, Yuvi, Pathan, Sreesanth appeared to suddenly have forgotten that they know how to play cricket...

That certainly helped Dhoni... Although how do people reckon the failure of opponents happens because of Dhoni's captaincy, I dunno...

Maybe it will be time to dump, blast and curse Dhoni tomorrow .. . when his supposedly invincible team falters against RR... or will it be the case of RR faltering and Warne wearing the crown of thorns.. a la worst captain tag?.. ;-)

I dunno how the ability of one captain is determined by the opponent... Till yesterday, Viru was a performing youngster fearless leader as opposed to Sachin who was the worst captain..
Yesterday Viru became the worst captain ... today that title is stolen by Yuvi...

Don't understand how 40 overs (or maybe 2 overs as in case of Sachin) suddenly change an individual from a hero to zero.. :-)

Buddy,
You have your points but the fact is that Yuvi is no match for MSD when it comes to captaincy skills and keeping cool under pressure and performing when it matters the most!! When it comes to mental toughness, Yuvi is absolutely no match for MSD!!

RE:dhoni & yuvraj
by All Right on Jun 01, 2008 07:31 AM  Permalink
That's precisely what I mean. Yuvi was proved to be no match for MSD, but does that make him the worst captain?...
He was supposed to be a good captain... some even ventured to say he was the best.. (remember readers on this very forum giving Sachin advice how to emulate Yuvi?.. :-)
I fail to understand why when he's pitted against MSD, Yuvi stops being a good captain and according to popular opinion needs to wear the dunce's cap..

And my observations will hold true for tomorrow's match too..

Maybe it all is rooted somewhere deep within us, . . our deep seated desire to seek sensationalism... convert a simple 40 over game into something that is epoch breaking...
Snap meanings out of seemingly routine actions, decisions, .. impose God stature on SOMEONE... desperately seek out a Dhoni today, a Warne tomorrow if our erstwhile deity Sachin fails...

:-)
That's my reading of the situation.. . but then you may be right.. Yuvi may be a no match for MSD...
And it may well turn out that MSD is no match for Warne when it comes to captaincy skills and keeping cool under pressure and performing when it matters the most!!.. :-)

Super Chennai and Intelligent Dhoni as being a part ofTN

The ICL version of T20 was also won by Chennai as because some of their players as in other fields also have been deprived over the years. You may call them Sambar or Idly or Else Dosa but they are the best. They have given the best to the country and in return got nothing. I am very proud.

Wow, Congrats CSK!! What a victory. I just saw the score as I just got back from work today and got really excited. I thought CSK would lose, but they pulled a magnificent victory. But, hold on, the job is not done yet. You have one more match to go.

I predict Rajasthan will win. But you never know. If you follow NFL in US, this year New England patriots and New york giants clashed in the final. New england had won all the games until final and so they were the favorites. The giants were the underdogs all the way, but they pulled a miraculous victory. Giants won. It was like a Goliath Vs David fight. I get a deja vu of that game. I hope CSK wins, though the odds are against them. Anyway, all the best to you.

Perfect display by CSK!!
by Aparna Mehrotra on Jun 01, 2008 03:24 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Today, CSK were unbeatable...they would have beaten even a rampaging Rajasthan Royals had they played them today.....simply perfect display of bowling, fielding and batting!!

Appreciate the fact that Dhoni, Badrinath, Morkel were not even required to bat....in hindsight, CSK might even have easily chased down 170 odd....

Having said that, a total humiliation was avoided by Pawar and Moto...especially Moto who batted sensibly..without Wilkis Moto, i don't think Kings 11 would have even reached 75!!

Even though i don't see it as a MSD vs Yuvraj rivalry, there are some people who see it that way and in that MSD is 3-0 up over Yuvi....Yuvraj is unnecessarily shooting himself in the foot by desiring the captaincy publicly, he needs to shut his mouth up...cos that only gets the best out of Dhoni and spurs him to go that extra mile when he sees Yuvi on the opposite side..

Having said that, if CSK retain the form they exhibited today, it is gonna be a very interesting clash against Rajasthan royals..too close to call and i'll put it at 50-50...

Whatever Powar scored he let CSK off the initial pressure in the early overs, gave lot of width and unnecessary flight in his deliveries. That helped parthiv score boundaries easily and that set the tone for parthiv & raina partnership.

I feel pity for all thos who call Dhoni as lucky .See the strength of the Chennai team
it is not uncerainities it is misjudgement of the CSK team.ITs bowling power is very strong, and nobody knew it.Ntini,Morkel,Gony ,Balaji and Murli.Goni and Balaji are unsung heroes destroyed by Ptics.Others are class international bowlers.Batting Suresh Raina,Badri and Vidyut are same way discrimintated. It is a strong team .Only those who come to the national side ,does not mean it is strong .Finally with a captaincy of Dhoni.Just imagine if Hayden and Hussey where there....What about Rajastan , with no players from national team , can u call him superlucky.Stupid fellows .Learn to respect performance.Sachin has to be given batting, only batting and nothing but batting.Everything will destroy him and indian team.
