It is really a surprise that people are talking about Ganguly when he has failed both against Australia compared to Sachin, Dravid and Laxman in the test series. It is better we need not talk about the placid wickets given for our players against Pak when several centuries and Double centurie4s were scord. Even in the T20 he was responsible for his own run out and that of Chopra on 3 occassions. Selectors have done the right thing after a long long time which they should have done before WC2007 to enable Greg and Dravid have their own say . They gave a batsman who scored 50 runs in 25 overs against Bangladesh and faired very badly against Srilanka when only Dravid and to some extent Sehwag were successful. There is no question of any regional or paroachial feelings . One should understand that by Promoting Dada always irrespective of his performance the east selector has done injustice to others of the zone. If SSDas fails twice he will be dropped but Ganguly was out in the same manner if I rememmber against Zimbaqwe at long leg/Fine leg repeatedly on all the 6 occassions but carried on and on. I feel sorry for Badri, Venugopal Rao, Asnodkar, but you you have to drop Sehwag who is undoubtedly a match winner which cannot be said about others.

Former selector Kirti Azad also felt that fitness and form and not age should be the criteria to select a team.

Ganguly scored 349 runs in his 12( one not out) IPL innings. He was adjudged man of the match twice. He is also one of the most economical bowlers of the tournament at a rate of 6.40 and has six wickets in his kitty. he hit 16 sixes ,among the highest!!!

Tendulkar could play only six matches due to his fitness problems. The right-hander scored 148 runs and could smash only one six during the tournament.

Dravid, on the other hand, made 360 runs from 14 innings. Compared to this, Sri Lankan veteran Sanath Jayasuriya has scored 460 runs at an average of over 40, while Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has aggregated 523 at an average of 43.
VS Giri is a lunatic!!!!

Giri,

DADA is just not picked because, Dhoni does not want him in the team.

If u take performance as a base, Ganguly should be in the team. He is scoring runs consistently and has been MoM many times recently ( including Tests against South Africa)

Even in IPL, he gave a good alround display. He took 7 wickets at very good economy rate and producted some match winning knocks.

If performance is the basis, then DADA should be in the team.

Dada scores runs, agreed but at what strike rate? Mid 70s? Majority of his runs are of boundaries. This means he consumes a lot of dot balls and does not rotate strike. A person with a strike rate of mid 70s is needed in the team, but he should be one who rotates the strike and be a sheet anchor.

T20 is a 50-50 game.. bowlers can only pick up wickets from a batsman's mistake. This was just one game and u would be ridiculous to pin point his performance out of just 1 game instead of all the goods he had delivered to his team. Well let me ask u one thing... is Mishra playing for all 11 members of the team ??? how can u be lame in accounting his bowling to the total team's lackluster performance ??!!!

Because Dhoni is insecure about the fact that Sehwag can get the captaincy if he fails. Thats why he keeps Sehwag out of the team. Hopefully Sehwag's time will come and Dhoni will be sent back to Ranchi.

this is the north vs south equation. It happens to most tamil nadu guys I think... they have to wait for ages to play for India. Clearly a biased selection. Who is this mother f**ker Ojha... oh yeah I get it... he was referred to by an aussie !!!!!

Badri has a superb Ranji record and is one of the highest run scorer this past season. He deserves his place in the Indian team more so then any other state fellow.

Following are the wrong selections
by Keshav on May 31, 2008 07:50 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

1) Uthappa
when you compare to lot of other youngsters this guy is totally waste. No technique. All he does is showing the cricket ball to crowd every time he catches. Show man.

2) RP Singh
He has been abysmal with his bowling when there is no swing. He is getting hit around by everyone.

3) Ojha

Good decent bowler. Replacement for Murali Karthik. But it would have been nice if they had given chance to more deserved Mishra.

Rest of the selection is good. I would have picked Mishra, Dinda or Gony or even Nehra and Badrinath.
