friends look at those venues and the opponents.EXcept the one yesterday rest of the centuries r in subcontinent.is it not the case?Sachin scored century only to ensure that he scores a century in Aussie pitches. In the process India won the match.I dont consider sachin as a team player. He is moreselfish.Nobobdy can dispute this.Let him score atleast 40 /50 in any one of the remaining final/s.I hope India will finish tour on Tuesday itself.but the fact everybody forgot is sachin scored century yesterdat only for personal reasons, in the process india won the match.so sachin's fans dont get toooooooo excited about sachin's unexpected century in a final of such importance. For sachin and all mumbai cricketers personal ambitions first and then team's success.

Hey heroraja,
Do you cricket first??
If you look at the match yesterday if he did not score 117 runs then how the India can win the match ? When Yuvraj is out India score is 87/3. If Sachin was out at this moment who else can complete the chasing? There could be chance to Australia to win the match. But Sachin and Rohit Sharma played well with out loosing any wicket. If he has good support in the other end for sure he can make any thing is possible. One man can't win the matches all the time. You have to notice this. One man can not score 240 runs. Cricket is not one man show. You people all are expecting like Sachin to complete the game all the time.
At the end the match winner is Sachin & Rohit. What the hell r u talking ?? U stupid fellow...F**k off.........bastered.

Heroraja, you are finding fault with a particular player (who is loved and respected by his team mates and acknowledged as a team player), owing to your basic hatred for him - I am sure you have a personal reason why it must be so and I have no quarrels with that. It's your privilege.
But such thought processes are damaging in the long term..it will affect your entire outlook on life.
Wake up when there is still time. Learn that if you think positive, your life will improve too.

Let BCCI makes a decission to respect seniors and give a chance to juniors in this way. Make Dravid, sachin and ganguly, laxman and sehwag as part of the team for ever but not more than two at a time. ( The combination left to captain. ) irrespective of their performance ( they had the well proven track everybody knows) they should be the part of team. so that seniors doesn't get neglected and juniors get good experiences with them. ( No lobbies should work on this is the strict statement in this regard)
This is kind of comparison that we need. This shows that tendulkar plays for hmself. The numbers speak for themselves. But, becoz of knocks like this he is able to survive... He has to hit more runs for India.

I hope all those who were cribbing about Tendulkar's performance, 100, not playing in finals, not playing when required ... bla..bla...would SHUT UP ....Its a team game and team should make sure they play collectively and not blame individuals...Look at Ponting, check his scores, yet he doesn't have so much pressure from his country/media...shame on us...
shame on rediff; u media guys feed the public the ammo to criticise even good players like Sachin whom all other entire cricketing nations players & public like & adore! u could not resist placing the cat among the pigeons again!! Again, shame on you rediff for such a comparison!
RE:Sachin stats!!!
by satya prasad on Mar 03, 2008 09:38 AM Permalink
renuka, mind you , all these knocks what ever he made were only to secure the place in the team at a situation when almost every one started commenting on his ability. A player should play whenever the team wants, not when ever he requires.ok, and stop blaming rediff. facts are always bitter , just say whole heartedly did he r(d)eserve any seat in teamindia? from our side Answer is "SACHIN IS GOD OF INDIAN CRICKET, NO DOUBT, TO BE A GOD FOREVER WE REQUEST HIM TO GIVE A CHANCE FOR YOUNG PLAYERS"
I beg to differ from u on this statement. According to u all the 42 centuries that Sachin made were only wen his position in the team was in danger?? Thats ridiculous!!! Just look at the stats above, the centuries in the 90's , were they to secure his place in the team? Moreover its not in his hands to let young players play cuz thats not a decision that he makes. Probably u shud write a letter to the BCCI selectors cuz they wud be able to answer that question of urs. Wat u r doin is like me blaming u for the article published on rediff when u clearly have no control over it.
So next time pls weigh ya arguments properly and put across :)

Hi Satya. You don't understand cricket. That is for sure. Cricket is a game between teams comprising of 11 players and not one alone. Would you be kind enough to compare Sachin with Yuvraj Singh, Robin Uthappa who have been given innumerable chances and have failed miserably. If you have to go by stats. In 415 matches that Sachin has payed he has 57 MOM awards. And in case u don't know MOM is given to player who is responsible for his team winning. And the number is mind boggling. If you count the number of matches India has won when Sachin played you will understand that he has contributed largely to the team winning than any other player has not only in India but other teams as well. He has been playing for over 17 years now. There is bound to be few failures. Becos he is a human being. You and Sanjay Manjrekar are in the same league of people who cannot do what Sachin is doing and hence so ignorant and can only talk.
Lot is being said about Sanjay Manjrekar and other critics eating their words and what not. One should remember, no one is questioning Tendulkar's greatness as a batsman in a game played by 9 nations in the world. His greatness as a batsman is beyond question. But, one has to go the extra mile to be called the greatest match-winner. And that is where the critics are questioning his abilities. The above statistics are revealing. After 1998-99, this is the first time he has really carried India on his shoulders with a match-winning knock in the finals of a tournament! That is the hallmark of greatness. Just take Gilcharist for example. By any stretch of imagination he is not the greatest batsman - he cannot hold a candle to the greatness of Tendulkar. But the fact remains he has played two of the greatest knocks in the finals of World Cup, both of which Australia won comfortably. Gilcharist has played many such match winning knocks both in Test and one day matches. That extra mile, that is what is important. I am sure I will be abused by all and sundry for this comment, but facts cannot be hidden.

well said. Two innnings in my opinion say about real tendulkar 1. Throwing wicket away in WC 2003 finals for just 4 runs. 2.Duck against SL in WC 2007 in do or die match. That resulted in our exit in first round. DO I neeed to say more. WC is mother all tournamnets and pressure . All other tournaments just filler in between 4 years. That is why WC win by Under 19 is mother of all wins.

RE:Are the critics wrong?
by VASUDEVAN V on Mar 03, 2008 10:17 AM Permalink
Well, well, well - If it is a team game, why give importance only to Tendulkar and make him God! Yesterday Tendulkar's knock came only after the bowlers bowled creditably and restricted Australia to 239, an achievable target. But you see TV and Newspapers - it is only `Tendulkaraya Namah...'. If it is a team game, give equal importance to the performance of the whole team without raising the status of a player to that of God. Remember, Kumble has bowled his heart out for this country and won many, many matches (of course, in a team game). Why is he not raised to the status of God. Perhaps, because Cricket is a batsman's game and Tendulkar is our God. I still maintain, he is the greatest batsman (repeat BATSMAN) in contemporary cricket and not the greatest matchwinner, team game or not.

Hi Vasudevan,
Hats off to you. You are spot on. But I hope Sachin shows some consistency and delivers the goods in the biggest of biggest matches. All the best to Sachin. To be branded as the undisputed greatest match winner is what I want for Sachin. May Sachin's Father in Heaven give him the strength to overcome this final hurdle to be called the Undisputed Greatest Match Winner ever.
where those bloody hell critics lost who ever criticise tendulker..I like to read their comments now...i'm sure they will say it's a low scoring match. if the target was over 300..tendulker would have a failure...
India reached finals on 11 more occasions after the 98-99 finals against Zimbabwe in Sharjah excluding the on-going triseries. No wonder Sachin has to carry this remark for the rest of his life. Very unfortunate statistic for The Maestro.
RE:Nearly a decade
by YoBro on Mar 03, 2008 06:01 AM Permalink
On most of those occasions, they got to the finals riding on his performances...so these statistics are just what they are - statistics.
But, at the end of the day, fact remains that he has to carry that remark for the rest of his life not withstanding what he has done at various other stages of a tournament or series. That's just very unfortunate - like Ivan Lendl failing to win Wimbledon and Boris Becker failing to win French Open. But Sachin still can continue for another couple of years and that way he will have several opportunities to redeem himself from his less than ordinary performances in finals and crunch matches while chasing.
RE:Nearly a decade
by kishore giduturi on Mar 03, 2008 09:18 AM Permalink
yo .. you guys are so blind that even after a good performance you cannot believe your eyes, what a pity !!!
Whether yesterday's innings was a good innings or not isn't the point of contention. He played many such good innings in the past is also not the point of contention. Just trying to put things into perspective - a filter called finals and chases, specifically, over the past decade or so. Sachin remains one of my all time favourites on par with Brian Lara, Kapil Dev, Rahul Dravid, Sir Richard Hadlee, Wasim Akram and Allan Donald. I would be extremely pleased if Sachin can continue for another couple of years and redeem himself from his less than ordinary performances in some particular match situations over the past decade. If he fails to do that, he has to carry that remark, unfortunately, for the rest of his life. One swallow doesn't make the summer. I am just saying that the numbers are against Sachin in finals and chases. Performance, numbers, half-centuries in a winning cause, centuries in a winning cause, opponents, and match situations etc are our basis to praise Sachin. I too am using all those parameters and seeing how Sachin measures upto them in some contexts. Unfortunately, he lags behind himself by many a mile. Kishore, we can't just look at things that are to our liking. We can't make the mistake of branding somebody as The Greatest without taking a tough test of him. Atleast, that is what I understood from many of our sacred scriptures - greatest warrior, greatest disciple etc. The word Greatest can't be conferred upon anybody so easily.
We need to learn so many things for Sachin. His sincerity and humbleness, keeps him distinct from for all other greats. When he is at 89 keeper left the ball and it went to four. No one know what happened Umpire asked him whether it hit his bat or not and he said NO. I don't think any one will have guts to say no. At 96 he got hit by Brett lee's on his shoulder and he did not complained in anyways even if it is a complete mistake of Lee. Besides groin injury he did not took a by-runner. All these speak about the person%u2019s passions love and dedication. No Matter what is his record or what is his position in Indian cricket or in the world, he is still very humble and ground to earth person. These qualities every one should learn.

Absolutely SPOT-ON !!! People should consider themselves lucky to be witnessing his batting but still complain about this thing or that !!! As they say "Ghar ki murgi baal barabar". Just imagine if we were ever given a chance to watch Sir Don Bradman or Sir Gary Sobers etc. play cricket...people would die to see that. The same wud be said by the future generations about Tendulkar. So praise his good qualities and be thankful that he is still entertaining u guys for the last "19" yrs and stop bickering and saying negative things about him. It doesn't help anyone.
