83 world cup
by abhay sudhakar on Jun 27, 2008 10:26 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

No doubt one of the glorious moments in Indian cricket. Every body in the team contributed & the skipper led from the front. The game is religon & 83 world cup winning members are like Gods in India.Every Indian should be proud of the accomplishment because no body gave India an outside chance. So the silver jublee celebrations are all the more important.Hatts off to BCCI for doing a great job & also to PMG & Sunny Gavaskar for organising function at lords. Finally a big thank you to Mr. Vijay Mallaya who readily sponsored the event & who is always ready to do things in style & grandeur.May the ALMIGHTY blesses every body with the best things in life.

fluke heroes

the winning of world cup 1983 was a fluke. dont think at me, i am pessimistic. u just reanalyse: the west indians invaded with the red hand after they lost the world cup to the fluke heroes and ransacked the indianheroics. whenever u remember the world cup victory the latter event also be remembered with towel on the heads.

Host country not lifting trophy
by Julian Martyn on Jun 26, 2008 03:25 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The great legend Gavaskar has told that no host country has lifted the World Cup.

I would like to clarify that Sri Lanka won the World Cup as joint organisers of the 1996 World Cup beating Australia

Braveheart,
Gavaskar is a legend in his own right. He was a test cricketer and has brought many glories to India. Sachin is also a legend even though he is not a T20 cricketer. Similarly, Warne is a great bowler and you cannot say otherwise just because he does not bowl at 150 km/h. Every cricketer has his own skill set.
You should be brave enough to give respect to people who do good in their own field and bring glories. Otherwise, you are just a chickenheart, not braveheart.

Many a times the talent in cricket is overlooked due to politics! Result : non-performance/ defeat.
When we will learn?

Please be an Optimist. What is wrong in present cricket team? All of them have proved themselves and earned a place in the team. If a player fails in two or more matches, he is sure to be dropped. Can you replace each member of the present team with a better performing player? I will accept your views then.

TODAY' TEAM IS FULL WITH OVERCONFIDENCE, WHERE AS THE 1983 TEAM WAS WITH CONFIDENCE, IT HAS BEEN OBSERVED WITH PAKISTAN TEAM, ONCE THEY REACH TO FINAL THEN IT IS VERY DIFFICULT FOR OPPONENT TO WIN. INDIA HAVE GOOD EXPERIENCE IS PAST, EXCEPT T20 CUP WON BY DHONI AND TEAM IN WHICH TANVEER WANTED TO BECOME MIYANDAD AND PAKINSTAN LOST THE T20 WC.

THE LATEST EXAMPLE IS BANGLADESH TRI SERIES, INDIA BEAT PAKISTAN BY MORE THAN 150 RUNS IN LEAGUE MATCH WHERE AS THEN WON THE TITLE BY SCORING 300 RUNS.

TODAY IS TEAM IS HAVING LACK OF CONFIDENCE AND FULL OF OVERCONFIDENCE. LETS SEE WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO ASIA CUP ????????????????/

silver jubileeof WC1983
by ajayan madhavan on Jun 26, 2008 03:04 PM  Permalink

What is wrong in celebrating the silver jubilee? Indians are still hollering about the deeds of so called leaders and Prime ministers. the same guys who criticise this celebration will shout obscenities from roof tops if the 20-20 world cup silver jubilee is not celebrated.

you are absolutely right dilip...
instead of winning another world cup..after 24 years they got out of this event in first round..and they r celebrationg this as it can not be achieved again.. also people who r investiong money into such occassion, they should invest their money in upliftment of this game and try to win another cup as soon as possible...

I prefer a different view here.Only after 1983 world cup win, Indian cricket started flourishing. Idia, since then, has won 19 tournaments(involving three or more teams), ranked third -Australia(34) and Pakistan (22). West Indies(17) is the fourth. Kapils 175 is the Best innings in a world cup, because otherwise we would have been back home. Usually the "FIRST" is always celebrated, what is wrong in celebrating 1983 world cup silver jubilee?
