Murli & Mendis
by Jyoti Prakash Malik on Aug 01, 2008 07:30 PM  Permalink

Our batsman can take lesson from the batting of Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and to some extent Laxman as to how they have tackled them effectively.

First test and this test relates following don's story
by Bala subramanian on Jul 31, 2008 04:28 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

"There is, for instance, the tale of Bill Black, an off-spin bowler playing for Lithgow, who on a memorable day in 1931 bowled Bradman for 52. The umpire was so excited that when the ball hit Bradman's wicket he called out: "Bill, you've got him." The ball was mounted and given to Black as proof that he had dismissed the greatest batsman in the world.

Later that season Don Bradman again played against Black. As the bowler marked out his run, Don said to the wicketkeeper: "What sort of bowler is this fellow?"

The wicketkeeper, a mischief-maker like the rest of his tribe, replied: "Don't you remember this bloke? He bowled you out a few weeks ago and has been boasting about it ever since."

"Is that so?" said Bradman. Two overs later Black pleaded with his skipper to be taken off. Bradman had hit him for 62 runs in two eight-ball overs. He made 100 in three overs and finished with 256, including 14 sixes and 29 fours.

Pitches in Lanka
by indira on Jul 31, 2008 10:02 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Whenever India prepares pitches to suit their spinners during home series, we criticise our board, captain, players and everyone involved in the preparation of the pitches. But when the same thing is done by Srilanka to win matches in their home series, we criticise our players'performance and not the Lankans for preparing the pitches to suit Murali and Mendis. Infact, the curator of the Gulle pitch said that it will be 4 day match. Srilanka always wins its home seiries by preparing pitches to suit their bowlers. So, hereafter, let us not criticise our board for doing the same.

Facing Murali & Mendis
by Cric Fan on Jul 30, 2008 06:14 PM  Permalink

Unless our batsmen get into Test mode and grind it out, they will face their doom against these two. Test batting requires a different mind-set. Having said that, we notice that our batsmen tend to extremes. Either they go slam-bang and throw their wickets away with silly shots OR they get into such an ultra defensive mind-set (Dravid scoring 10 runs in 100 balls) that it kills the game. They need to strike the right balance. Guys like Gambhir, once set, should not throw away their wicket. The senior pros should bring in their experience and not set wrong example by playing brainlessly, to either extreme. Bowlers need to get their act together fast. Kumble and Bhajji failed miserably while their counterparts took 19 wickets on the same strip. The faster guys should bowl to a plan. If they don't get their basics right, they may as well come home and roost. Anyway, wish Team India all the best.

murali n mendis
by Deewaker pandey on Jul 30, 2008 03:23 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

i think, more than anything else it is media hype abt murali n mendis. indian have played murali before so they mst nt create pressure on their shoulder. murali is always a danger bowler specially on srilankan pitches where he generally takes 10 wkts in match and mendis is mainly media hype. every 1 saw tht murali ws responsible for the destruction of indian batting line up. so india batsman shd attack on both the spinner. bcoz attack would b the best defence for them.

AISE HAZAR MURLI AUR MENDIS AAYE AUR GAYE... INDIAN BATSMENS CAN PLAY BETTER TO ANY SPINER OF THE WORLD OTHER THAN ANY OTHER TEAM... THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME WHEN SACHIN , SAURAV AND DRAVID WERE PLAYING TO MEDIS.. THEY WILL SMASH MENDIS IN NEXT INNING AND NEXT MATCH..
