Also it might be a good idea for Dhoni to bat higher up in the order (say 2 down) and provide some sort of anchoring role. In crucial matches, Indian batting usually crumbles.

Now-a-days Dhoni is just playin the role of Anchor only, He should play the way He played when He scored 183* against Sri Lanka.........................................................................

Your God Sachin has also changed his batting over the years . He is also much slower now.
Ian Chappel says Sachin in nowhere near what he was five years ago.

Sachin played for more than 16 years how many years did Dhoni play.So early he lost his game. Its the same way Dhoni is no where near what he was 2 years ago.

Either way, we need to be able to make 350 runs or prepare to chase 350 because that's what it will come down to.

This is the correct order. Dhoni should come higher up and play a stabilizing innings should there be a collapse of the top order.

It's very sad we have no fast bowlers like McGrath or miserly Ambrose. Not even the fast-bowler equivalent of Anil Kumble.

They just look old. Perhaps a consequence of constant travel, playing in hot/humid conditions and lack of proper diet.

If there's anyone's age that you need to question, its that of the Pakistani cricketers. They're the ones that have players who look years older and are still claiming to be in their early 20's. Makes me think that each of them was born in the same hospital that had its records dept. burned down to the point that they had to make-do with an arbritary date.
One more thing; baldness is not a mid 30's or 40's phenomenon. If it runs in your family; say "hail mary" and you could find yourself hairless and yet only in your mid 20's.

Baldness is also a function of diet, stress and sleep habits in younger days.

if you forget the baldness viru doesnt look much past his actual age. Btw yes if you asked me to rate the players that look much older than their age on record it would be like this
1. Sohail Tanvir 23 2. Umar Gul 24 3. Irfan Pathan 23
and by the way Abdul Razzaq never looked 20 when he started playing against India. He does look 30 though now. Age catching up with the looks i guess :)
Mark my words, Rohit Sharma's poor striking rate will slow down the run rate during middle overs. This guy make thirty odd runs but consume too many balls.

you should once again go thru the record of T-20 IPL.He is very capable hitter of the ball and great find for India
people are wrongly rating irfan as a top bowling all rounder. his bowling is at best pedestrian and would only just make it as a 5th stock bowler in most teams. he just does not have the pace to be used up front. same goes for praveen kumar as well. both of them are not going trouble batters even a little with their gentle affable medium pace bowling. Ideal bowling attavk for us would be zaheer, ishant, gony, bhajji and irfan as a sort of an allrounder.

Better to play with six batsmen and five genuine bowlers, because dont forget srilanks got two experieneced bowlers mr. vaass and mr. murlitharan who are well experienced for this final who will definitely pay off, so we also need to restrict srilanka batting lineup in the like of Mr, jaisurya, sangkara, jayavardhane...according to my observation, asia cup winners are srilankans

On these kind of flat pitches, having 5 bowlers won't b a gud idea.. Bcoz we really don't have attacking bowlers and it's difficult to contain runs.. If u observe previous matches, most of the specialit bowlers have gone for abt 6 runs an over.. So better option wud b to have a really strong batting order.. Include Yusuf Pathan as well.. n make sure to have Praveen Kumar.. Thatwud mean we wud b having 9 batsmen who can really bat! n in bowling department, use al the options. Get various bowlers bowl in short spell and dont let the batsmen settle for any particular bowler.. Ofcource there is no sure sort trick for victory in cricket matches.. but my understanding says this will b a gud idea.. Let's hope for the best :)

having a 5th bowler can make all the difference between chasing a target of 300 and 350.

totaly aggred with rajivkumar jha, if yr 4 bowler give runs definately 5 th bowler too. the way one day cricket is playing today, more dominating by batsman not bowlers so its good to keep 4 bowlers and include 7 batsman, and that no. 7 is yusuf pathan only.
I feel that Pathan is not in the best of form or fitness. It makes sense to go with 4 bowlers only namely R.P.Singh,Ishant Sharma,Praveen Kumar and Pragyan Ojha.To augment the batting,Robin Uthhappa should be included in place of Irfan Pathan as the other Pathan (Yusuf)is unable to translate his T20 success in this form of the game.
RE:Irfan Pathan
by Vaibhav Bhargava on Jul 06, 2008 06:19 AM Permalink
The combination of 7 batsmen and 4 bowlers with Irfan Pathan as one of the specialist bowlers doesnt make sense. First on these featherbed pitches, the top 4-5 batters should do the job. Second, to contain the likes of Jayasurya, Sangakkara and Jayawardene you need 5 bowlers since part timers will be taken apart.
If Irfan has to be played he should be played as an allrounder and not as a specialist bowler. His brother Yousuf has been disappointing in the tournament and can be left out. They can play 2 spinners in Chawla and Ojha with Ishant and R.P. Singh finishing up the bowlers list. Tha batters select themselves with Rohit Sharma given another chance at No.6
All said and done, India should win easily against SL :)
RE:RE:Irfan Pathan
by givemeabreakplease on Jul 06, 2008 10:10 AM Permalink
Everyone seems to talk about batting and bowling, but remember the Sri Lankans (even the old ones) are far more agile in the field. A couple of well held catches can turn the game completely around.
Any batsman can be run out by good fielding, so even Jayasuriya and Sangakkara fire early on, a run out can save the day for us.

RP sing is zero in batting and i dont thing we need great bowlers here in this pitch . some one like ishant sharme is not able to make a difference . As Garry has said who ever bats well is going to win here . So It more important to have a alrounder than a bowler . Yousuf had been comming at 6 and 7 and dint had to bat and so Robin is not a replacement as Yousuf can Bowl while robin cannot. With Raina Batting well Robin has to sit out . If he replaces any one it should be a bats man and not an all rounder

RE:Irfan Pathan

There's no real need to call people names like "moron" or "crap". We all know what the "great" Sachin Tendulkar did for India in crucial matches. Always looks like he's constipated when facing a big total. Makes all sorts of monkey gestures adjusting his guard, pads, bats etc and then gets out for single figures and pretends like he had better intentions. Sachin the charlatan.
india narrowly missed kitply cup in bangladesh.this time should lift asia cup. india should play 5 bowlers including piyush chawala.msd to bat at no 4. shewag is key tomorrow and he to be selective in his shots.
RE:asia cup
by givemeabreakplease on Jul 06, 2008 01:18 AM Permalink
On a flat batting pitch, the fundamentals come into play. Bowlers should focus on getting the line and length correct instead of trying to take wickets through swing or bounce.
IF WE NEED TO WIN THE FINALS, WE SHOULD PLAY WITH 5 REGULAR BOWLERS WITH BACKUP FROM SEWHAG/YUVRAJ. PIYUSH CHAWLA SHOULD BE DUMPED FROM THE TEAM.
IRFAN PATHAN CAN BE PLAYED ONLY IN BOWLING FRIENDLY PITCHES OUTSIDE THE SUBCONTINENT AS AN ALLROUNDER AND CERTAINLY NOT IN SUBCONTINENT PITCHES WHERE HE IS AN VERY MEDIOCRE BOWLER.
IF WE ARE ALREADY STRONG IN BATTING AND WEAK IN BOWLING WE SHOULD CONCENTRATE ON BOWLING RATHER THAN BATTING. BUT, GARY KIRSTEN STRESSES THE NEED FOR BATTING PERFOMANCE. THEN, WHAT FOR HE IS THE COACH OF THE TEAM. IT IS A GREAT MISTAKE TO HAVE HIM AS THE COACH OF THE TEAM. HE IS JUST LIKE ANOTHER USELESS DUMP FELLOW LIKE JOHN WRIGHT WHO DID NOTHING USEFUL IN HIS TENURE, BUT DANCE TO THE TUNES OF SAURAV GANGULY AND DALMIA(BCCI). GARY KIRSTEN CAN BE SACKED AS THE COACH FOR THIS VERY SINGLE STATEMENT.

Absolutely. We almost got the World cup. Twenty five years from now, we will be celebrating that because our only cup will be the one we won way back in 1983, and that's good enough for us.
