India was cheated by two umpires and Australia
by Maddali Sitaramanjaneyulu on Jan 06, 2008 05:25 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is horrendous umpiring in the 2nd Test at Adelaide. Steve Bucknor is quite unfit to be an International umpre both physically and mentally. He should have been sacked by ICC atleast 1 year back. The quality of umpiring is either neutral or acceptable.

The two umpires Steve Bucknor of West Indies and Mark Benson of England have given a number of atrocious decisions, all most all have gone against the Indians. It is quite evident on television that the umpiring has been wretched.

Australia benefited from Benson and Bucknor's generosity throughout the match. On the first day, India had the hosts on the mat at 134 for six but Andrew Symonds was given not one but two reprieves once by Bucknor and another by third umpire Bruce Oxenford before he went on to score an unbeaten 162 to take Australia out of trouble. Third umpire%u2019s role is just biased.
Benson's generosity continued after he ruled in Mike Hussey's favour even after the batsman had edged RP Singh to wicket keeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the second innings. Hussey, who was then on 45, made the most of the opportunity and went on to make an unbeaten 145 to swell Australia's lead.
In India's second innings, the blunders continued to flow. Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly, who looked quite comfortable in the middle as India tried to save the match, once again got the rough end of the stick. While Dravid was given caught behind even though he didn't get an edge, Ganguly was given out to a slip catch by Michael

Whats wrong with the ''Outsider'' !!
by Ian Chappell on Jan 06, 2008 05:19 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I think Andrew Symonds really destroyed the camaraderie between the two great crecket playing nations. Australian board should understand that why Indian board didn't complain against any other Australian player in the past. Indians always have good relations in the past like Bradman and Lala Amarnath, Border and Gavaskar, Deen Jones,Devid Boon,Craig Macdermott and Ravi Shastri,Manjrekar...Recently Sachin Tendulkar Shane Warne,Heyden,Rahul Dravid,Steve Wauge,Adam Gilcrist! I mean you could name many cricketers. Despite being tough to each other on the field they respect each other very much on the field and off the field as well. Aussies and Indian cricketers friendly relations are very old and Indians respect Australians for this quality of playing tough cricket but I don't know why from the day this 'outsider' Symonds came into the aussies side every cricketing country has some problem with his attitude. I think he don't know the difference between playing "tough" and playing "ugly and disrespectfully and winning at any cost attitude". I think there is some problem with him and aussies board should look after it and should have a talk with him about it. Enough is enough now! This guy symonds is really destroying the cricket relations between the two countries.
I think the umpires really killed the spirit of the game I must say. I have full sympathy and congratulate Indians on being calm on the whole issue.
