Poor guy has just started playing. Let's now spoil him by hailing him as our next Dhoni (or for that matter next Gilly)

Mr. Behera, the east zone selector is Mr. Ranjib Biswal who is himself from Orissa. Even then, if he is not interested, let God help all potential Orissa/ East zone players.

Good luck Haladhar Das
by Idiot on Feb 06, 2008 02:23 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Good report. No English, not familiar with email ID, eager to watch his photos etc. are not good remarks. May not be in the Indian Team in near future for many wicket keeper batsmen are in waiting. In Ranji Trophy where is Orissa Team. Elite or Plate? If he scores tons of runs who care for wicket keeping. Was there not a chance for batsmen in future or we do have a lot at present. Sameer bhai, everyone play to get a chance in Indian team. We do have players for all categories, then was it better for everyone to stop playing? You should appreciate a player when he is coming from a remote area, for he should have to face a lot of problems.

Orissa is in the Elite league. Players for the duleep trophy are selected from Elite league only. Please note, Orissa was the best team from East zone this year.

Bengal is relegated to Plate league.

Local Talent
by abhay nath on Feb 06, 2008 01:31 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Whenever i read a story of success for the local player in first class i start thinking someday he will able to face fast bowler like lilly, thomson and now Brat lee.But when they selected and play for the country and on visit to foreng land. The hero become zero on the fast pitch. So, this is the same story with every first class talented bowler and batsman or wicket keeper. So i would like to request to make our first class local pitches fast like south african or Australian. So then real talent will come up. I see Mazumdar playing so many years from Mumbai.Scored so many runs but still at the first class cricket. So may talent in the country are not coming up because of the regionalism, politcs and favourism. If BCCI works selflessly and track good players from remote area of India, which has desire and fire to do something for their mother india. One of the best example is Mr. Kapil Deve Nikaj. Usmey jo zajba thai wo bahut kum dekhney ko milta hai.

Groom the talent
by Rajendra Deshpande on Feb 06, 2008 12:02 PM  Permalink

It is good to read that, we have lot of talent in India. It is the responsibility of BCCI to groom it. BCCI don't have concrete set up to identify the talent and groom it. BCCI is busy in their own politics i.e who will go to Australia with team? Vengsarkar shouldn't write a column in news paper, so they are busy in cutting each other's leg, which is very well expected from them. Somebody from Non-political background/honest should take the control of BCCI. A person who talk more does less and who talk less does more. Our BCCI official fall in the earlier catagory. India is country of lot talent but got wasted due to bad leadership.
