Tackling Ajanta Mendis
by RAJAGOPALAN RAJASEKARAN on Aug 01, 2008 06:57 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I think Indian batsmen should take very seriously about Ajanta Mendis bowling. He is proved deadly. Beteer to take advice from Indian great batsmen like Gavaskar, Viswanath and Vengsarkar. Once Brajesh Patel was known very good batsman against spin bowling. Word of advice from him to tackle Mendis also important.

Dude.. let it be simple. The kind of bowler Mendis is, even Sunil, Vengsarkar etc. would have been thrown apart. In their time, spinners were orthodox and predictable. Sachin and Dravid are great players of spin, much better than the experts you mention. They have played likes of Warne, Murli etc. Such deadly unpredictable bowlers never existed in history.

Yes,Sunny,Vishy and Vengy were great players of spin bowling and even Azharuddin & Siddhu were far superior to these morons. The problem is..these idiots have a king-size ego,so they will never learn anything from anybody.Regarding Patel, not 2 sure.Perhaps he was so bad playing the pacy stuff that he was considered to be a fine player of spin bowling in relative terms.

I dont think u need any more then what the Indian line have for theoritical knowledge to play spin. Tendi laxman sehwag are one of the greatest players of spin u can get anywhere. Ofcourse when u come across a freak bowler u might have to start form the scratch as to how to tackle him u might take any help u can. But even Kirsten being a great player of spin i think this is the case of some time to digest this new style of bowling before u come up with a solution. He took 8 in the first test and 6 in the first innings of the 2nd test. This guy is dangerous for anybody. But the world will sort him out at some stage. Am sure Sehwag is the first among them. And I can bet it will be long before u can see another batsmen read mendis like sehwag did and make a double. I mean even by the whole world. right now its a more a case of a freak bowler being handled by a freak batsmen.

Good comments Satish...a departure from the common refrain accusing seniors. People forget that Sehwag is also among the veterans...

Kumble's bowling performance is becoming increasingly irritating. It is high time BCCI to take ruthless decision by removing him from 3rd test. He is blocking the young talents like ojha & Chawla to play. Dhoni should be made captain of all version of games and the well improved Shevag could assist him.

dude Dhoni did not have the guts to come to the test series cause he wanted to take rest...Test cricket should be given first priority then one day and 20-20...do you really think Dhoni has the maturity to Captain a test side...think again

Kumble will retire only when he is kicked out.Sehwaag should be made the captain of the test team with Dhoni as his deputy. This is all the more important considering that this is the only sure-shot way of keeping that overrated nerd Yuvi out of the test team :)

"Dhoni should be made captain of all versions of games"

What stopped him from coming to SL and playing the Murali-Mendis duo? Having seen the Asia Cup debacle this guy chose to keep away from the struggle..

How Long for Arsenal???
by deepak on Aug 01, 2008 06:37 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Awaiting return of the Indian kids being trained at Arsenal, England. It is time football took over as India's main sport and Indians worried about bringing in the World Cup. Other sports Indians need to develop which is also great physical activity are basketball, hockey, tennis, boxing, wrestling & gymnastics.

Agree fully. Any way we are not dominating in any game . So why not try different games which are good for fitness like volly ball soccer and basket ball and also tennis.Let us not think of sports as war and only think of it as a fitness tool.If we did that who knows may be we will dominate in one sport tomorrow.

India should aim to gain a lead of around 50-60 so that Lankans could be put under pressure.Bt it all depends on 1st session tmrw and hw India play in 2nd innings.Bhajji n Sehwag have given them the chance...

No Oldies any more
by deepak on Aug 01, 2008 06:34 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Except for Tendulkar & Bhajji please ask the oldies to retire. They are boring. India has plenty of fresh faces who need the exposure and have a better chance of figuring out what a new spin bowler's mystery is.

better way is; give chance to oldies and youngsters in an alternate matches...! It will work. Eg. If Sachin, Ganguly is in the team avoid Dravid and Laxman fill with two young players like Raina or Yuvi or anybody who are in form. Same as if Dravid and Laxman is in the middle order, avoid Sachin, Ganguly or Kumble. Give chance to yuvi, raina, pathan, uthappa Chawla, Mishra etc…….

Pathetic Karthik
by Stanley Mathews on Aug 01, 2008 06:27 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

What a pathetic sight it was to see Karthik time and again fumble and miss catches/stumping chances. How long will Kumble's love for him will save him? Why isn't Parthiv donning the gloves- He is also a better bat.

Hi
How do we know that parthiv will be better given the records so far proved karthik to be better...only if we give them a couple of chances we can decide that one is not doing well.this is 2nd test and so may be if karthik does not do well in 2nd innings as well team might decide for parthiv...

so lets be patient.

Chances? Karthik has had more than his share of chances. His basics in wicket-keeping is entirely faulty. He grabs the ball instead of letting the ball come to him. His keeping for the spinners is even worse- he doesn't stay low enough and tends to get up before time. That's why his misses catches off spinners.

Ram, Every community in India is clanish. Northies took it for granted that India is theirs and only they should represent everything in India. Other people specially Southies are just for token representation. After so many years some Tamilians are in cricket and if some spectator favours their kind it is only natural. Though I agree fully Kartik ia s failure and so is Uttappa. Yuvi has been a failure for a long time.
