U r right does not matter which team is better. They are playing for money not for Cricket.
I donot understand ,Y suddenly so many people are going down with injuries, and Y BCCI has refrained from its word by promoting Cricketers of Indian team to promote for IPL,when after Worldcup debacle it has made such a strong
statement about endorsements by team memebers .Now its their own turn of promoting IPL no rules.... no Cricket... only IPL should do well does'nt matter at cost of India loosing matches the way they did in motera. It was very much evident that there was no commitment shown in the Indian team in motera.Interestingly if we look at the First innings they were bowled out in exactly 20 overs ,someone please remind the Indian team tat its a test match they are playing not 20-20.It can be argued upon but thats the fact.IPL is only played for money and to restrict ICL where in ICL is played to find young talent thats a small and most important difference between IPL and ICL.I dont understand
how IPL is going to help Indian cricketers who already busy with their hectic schedule. Now whats the logic behind it only BCCI and players can say it.Is it Money or Cricket they are interested in.BCCI should leave its EGO problems and should'nt burden the cricketrs more,in turn which will effect the Cricketing results. They should leave ICL and mind their own business.
Lets see how long these IPL games are going to go with hectic schedule tat ICC has for them.

What is ICL?

If you consider IPL is not good, ICL is even crap then that :)

Basically, It is a commercializing cricket...both is the same...still would say ICL is worst :)

IPL will be a total failure and a farce!!
by Dingbat on Apr 09, 2008 11:57 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

For the following reasons, i think IPL is gonna be a total farce :

1) ICC not recognising these as official 20-20 internationals...most players like Yuvi, Jaya will just use it as a slambang kind of promotional stuff where everytime a six is hit, there will be some cash prize etc and the dancing girls will go crazy...
No motivation due to lack of official status...just some entertainment..

2) City loyalty and rivalry is just a gimmick in this globalized and boundaryless world...20 years back, when there was only Indian airlines, people remained restricted to cities...
Today a Punju works in Mumbai, Tamil works in Bangalore, Marathi works in Gurgaon etc...
Also, Ponting playing for a Kolkata and actually being able to generate chauvinism towards Kolkata or a Jaya generating chauvinism for a Mumbai is highly far-fetched and artificial...there is no genuine love for the city franchise at all...all international players have only come for the money....

3)Highly opportunistic where Modi has started IPL just to generate multiple income streams...media rights, TV rights etc...no love of the game, no knowledge of the game etc...eg. most of the sponsors or owners(Eg. Sharukh for Kol) don't have an iota of understanding of the game and have never played it.......what credibility will a owner enjoy when he does not have an iota of understanding of the game where he has put in money??
It is like a private equity investor or VC putting money in some area and not having an iot

It is like a private equity investor or VC putting money in some area and not having an iota of knowledge of that sector....just deep pockets can't make a concept successful....

4) IPL is just a knee jerk reaction to ICL and has not taken into account several factors like player fatigue and overwork, disruption of international schedules etc...sooner or later, disruption of schedules and loss of players will make the country boards sit and take notice and arm-twist the IPL into bringing about changes...

Plus many more reasons really...a concept doomed to failure cos it is based on a rather flimsy foundation!!

IPL will it realy be as successful as International Cricket?
by Vijay Kurhade on Apr 09, 2008 11:24 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Quite skeptical on success of IPL, in asian continent peoples mindset is with supporting national teams for international matches.

Not sure with all hype and hoopla how much success IPL will really achieve

It will be a complete disaster and a flop show cos it rests on very very flimsy foundation....what is the mission statement of IPL??
1) to mint money...
2) to mint money...

If cricinfo.com doesn't have access to IPL
by Arun Prasad on Apr 09, 2008 10:03 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If cricinfo.com doesn't have access to IPL, then it is not at all cricket. IPL is sh*t, formed only to corner ICL.

All the Media should work in Tandem. They should all boycott IPL.Anyways IPL is of no sense to INDIAN publid It only matters to Cricketrs and their families and more importantly to BCCI ...a new format of minting money. So does,nt really matter if its covered in media or not.Chill.....media should promot ICL instead might be there's a chance that we can find some valuable players from that tournament, but from IPL its waste of paper. It can only be a disadvantage to Indian cricketers if they break
down by burdening themselves more, for sake of
Money.

Shameful on Rediff's part to have a IPL section
by mautan on Apr 09, 2008 09:11 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I feel it is absolutely shameful on part of websites like Rediff and Cricinfo to continue having a section for IPL. I know its been a day only, but I would have instructed my system administrator to close the link and display a message saying 'coverage suspended'.
If you guys look into Prem's blog, I have been after him since the last month or so about being anti ICL ( not covering it at all is being anti) and also for bringing a well known fact that Prem hates Kapil. But by bringing the personal likes and dislikes into bigger issues, Rediff does not do anyone any favour. The fact is ICL and Kapil are doing a great job whereas IPL has shown the finger to the likes of Prem, Rediff, Cricinfo etc, a just reward for publicising IPL and ignoring ICL for the last 6 months.

Finally I agree, Rediff and Cricinfo deserves it. Although, Cricinfo did had a little better coverage than Rediff of ICL.Rediff was busy publishing SRK, Preity photos of launches of the teams and what not. Nobody at Rediff cared about some new talents found by ICL such as Raviraj Patil, Nechim, Murtaza, TP Singh, Binny, Reddy etc.

I guess you get what you sow.

THE THOUGHT OF THE IPL REFELCTS THAT THE MONEY MAKING IS ONLY THE GAME NOT THE INTEREST OF THE PUBLIC IN GENERAL. THEY CAN SALE ANY THING AS THEY HAVE RIGHTS IRRESPECTIVE OF THE SENTIMATES OF THE PEOPLE OF THE COUNTRY WHO ARE VIEWING THE WEBSITES.
HOWEVER, I THINK IT WILL ALSO HARM IPL IN TIME TO COME FOR PUBLICITY OF THE MATCHES.
YOUR WEB SITE MUST COME FORWARD TO UNITED OTHERS TO BOYCOTT THE GAMES.
THANKS

You are absolutely right. Can't believe rediff is still covering IPL and trying to get some mileage out of it. There are tons of other things rediff can concentrate than going after IPL after what BCCI has done to them by banning online press coverage for websites. It is really an egg in their face..

Lets see when they ( if at all) Rediff takes off the IPL section. Or maybe they are interseted just in generating more and more page view with people like us giving our views. Or else why would they start a new topic today, which is the same subject from yesterday. Yesterday that article about websites getting banned had hundreds of replies. So why a new ( the same) question today? Obiviously they know how we all feel...
Rather than this question today they should have listened to popular opinion and covered the ICL India vs the World game..thats why I do not sympathize with rediff at all. Maybe IPL is correct, everyone is trying to make a buck, thats all, whether through cricket or page views!!

IPL is all about money for BCCI - they are the greediest
by Kumar on Apr 09, 2008 08:57 PM  Permalink

It is a pity that the media - including Rediff - did not cover ICL properly. The quality of cricket was excellent, and the matches pulsating. You can be sure that BCCI is only interested in its coffers - so that the officials can make money. The media should take the lead in the initiative to wrest the power of running cricket in India away from the BCCI and give it to a body that reports to the govt. or better still, cricketers (with help from bureaucrats?) so that it is not always about politicians making money.

In the name of the Cricket, the whimsical fellows in Cricket administartion are abusing Indian Public and the game. Its rediculous to make money from everything. Public will not tolerate this and the players have already gone Mad with Money. Elections will get funded with money and the Cricket Mafia will rule he game.
