I am happy being an abnormal...

Man who care whether u like it or, What a waste of time, reading the Column from a Fanatic.

You Feel sorry for the down-trodden, then go an do soething for them, rather than writing a 2 Page useless column. By the way did u give a glass of water to a begger on the street or a small donation to a orphanage.

I agree ive never seen an entire cricket match since I left india when I was 8 & I just got bored with it before with 20-30 people coming to our house to watch it on our color tv(back in 96-97) so it was never something I looked forward to.

These days I like to view the score cards & I get much more joy from that then wathcing the games. I am from hyd so I will be a bit "regionalist" (who in india isnt to their own right?) & I am a fan of VVS Laxman. He isnt as well liked as other cricketers & I could care less about that but when he is taken out to make room for others it annoys me. If you compare stats his avg is decent. When ganguly got kicked out people were in an uproar over it but when laxman gets out no one says anything. Im glad his supporters dont it makes us look like idiots saying hes better than the rest of the team. He isnt but he is a good player & deserves what he has earned.

I followed his stint at lancashire & he did very well & helped lancashire with a 100 in their 2nd inns & they fell short by 25 runs. He performed better than ganguly with his stint in county cricket. So if he gets left out of the aus tour I will be annoyed.

And have us look like idiots burning make shift dolls of people? I said I get annoyed when he is left out for reasons the bcci issues but I wouldnt go & burn or charge their office to protest my dislike of the move.

Its hard for a player who performs but isnt recognized. Check the india vs aus stats here on rediff

http://rediff.com/cricket/2007/sep/28stats.htm

Laxman has more runs than dravid & ganguly in 10 less matches. His avg of 46.18 is only .26 less than sachins whose avg is 46.44 while dravids & gangulys are 28.29 & 22.31. Sachin has 7 centuries from 47 matches & laxman has 4 from 21(19 innings) & dravid & ganguly both have 1 each. Laxmans SR is also better than dravids & gangulys & is only 10 less than sachins.

So if you look at the stats laxman is a better player than dravid & ganguly against aus. Why wouldnt you pick him huh? Dont tell me that they are fake or something & im using these stats some sort of propaganda. Im just proving facts to show that he is a good player.

All well said. But you know what we do need our moments where we feel good, proud that Indians have shown excellence in something. What is wrong in celebrating that and rewarding the people who have made that possible. The amounts you are talking are trivial for a nation of our size. I came out feeling good from 'Chak De' , millions have felt great when India won the finals. You are entitled to your objective views and so are we to be passionate and emotional about cricket.

It's politics all the way!!
by navin aysola on Sep 28, 2007 12:17 PM  Permalink

Can any of the politicians who were present at award ceremony gather the crowd at the stadium. Mumbai being a every running city would never give importance to political rallies.

It would've been a tremendous gesture if BCCI had donated part of the prize money to a NGO and the players would've followed suit.

It's unfortunate that politics and cricket are mixed and that too at the expense of ill-informed cricket fans.

This article is a balancing act where "Sidhuism" is used. There should be a more rationale approach to this.

As for rediff, it time and time again beats its extremely low standards of journalism.

Harsha Javeri, you are a idiot not a economic analyst!
by sudhir dhar on Sep 28, 2007 10:08 AM  Permalink

Durinng the World Cup, our economy grew!
How?
The advertisements on TV, sold products , made in factories of India, sold services offered by Indian firms!
And when factories sell stuff, and services are availed by people, its good for the economy.

After each win, people celebrated, by going out for dinner for picnic, thats also a economic gain.

Harsha thinks he is so smart, actually these guys are JEALOUS of other people's SUCCESS.
He made it a point , how he had breakfast with Border...whats the relevance?Just to showoff!!

Shut up Harsha!!

Funniest Part
by Ankush Mittal on Sep 28, 2007 07:23 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

You know the funniest part is that if we would have lost the final which I know we did not, but lets assume for a moment we did. Then all these money and drama would never have been there right....but even then the players would have given there best to reach the finals....

What I mean to say is that how can winning just one game and the cup make such a lot of difference in the scenario for BCCI to load the players with so much of money....So it is like either you win the tournament and you are awesome...or you loose in the final and you are a piece of shit..

Instead of developing their bank accounts try to develop their brains and body so that they can perform like this for ever. But guess what all this is happening when we even dont have a regular coach....so I mean what exactly a coach does then...has some one thought about it...At this time it is only Dhoni and Dhoni...I wonder what would have been offered to sachin if he would have performed in TT cup...may be 10 crores and another ferrari....hahahahah...But yeah things will never change...sentences and words can only fill the pages in todays world...they mean nothing to anyone anymore...have fun guys and keep the faith.

agree - but writing is not sufficient-politicians are not going to change- we need to
by Vinod Menon on Sep 28, 2007 06:50 AM  Permalink

I liked that the author was thoughtful. Especially paying attention to the fact that people celebrate for their enjoyment. He was worried about the propertion not the fact that they enjoy it. Especially award for Yuvraj on 6 sixes just wrong. not only that it is waste of money, but it will promote individual heroics instead playing for the team. next time some one else will attempt heroics instead of what situation needs.

Now the disagreement part. People will do what they have to do. It is hard to change. Politicians are not going to change or do things to improve India. But we need to. All of us need to see what can we do around us to make the life better for the poor and every one. Do not wait for politicians as they are not going to do. Some times do small deeds, some times try to set examples that people can follow.
And always whether you have money or food enjoy small moments of happiness, and know where to limit it.
easier said than done again :)
